Have any dates been announced for Caroline Bowman?

All scheduled dates are for Mandy currently. I'd be shocked if Bowman ever goes on. Mandy is the alternate and the first cover, if Nicole ever calls out, Mandy will be asked to come in (if she wants since she only needs to actually be at the theatre on her scheduled day).

My guess is Bowman will never get a show before she leaves in the spring.

I bet two premium price tickets that Mandy will call out during the winter and Bowman will at the very least get one performance under her belt.

Maybe they should wait until the show’sover to leave then?

Agree with the poster above.

we don’t need to sit and watch Jamie’s name again pop up during the show. After the curtain call I wanted to leave after being exhausted

Why don’t you sit your ass down and stop yourself from ruining it for anyone else. I enjoyed the credits. And sat there mesmerized as the orchestra played the exit music . As most people did when I saw thisat the Savoy . Be bitchy all you want on your own time.

I thought this as well, but in the Playbill it lists Bowman as the Standby. Mandy is not even in the play (I am sure there will be a special insert for her). Plus I noticed that Mandy is doing concerts throughout this run as well. Tonight in NJ is one of them. So, Bowman may get a shot.

Just my thoughts after seeing it and reading the playbill last night.

I believe Nicole's track record is excellent and don't recall her missing any performances in London. Is that true?

That's mostly true. She did miss a couple of weekend performances once if I recall correctly but they gave the audience a few days notice if I recall so people could rebook and I don't remember the reason. Otherwise, her attendance was excellent and her voice seemed to hold out quite well (though I did start to wonder if she would need to take a break if it carried on any further).

Nicole seems to absolutely love what she is doing and she knows that the stakes for Broadway are even higher and more exciting than the West End. I expect she won't miss a show unless she really needs to.

There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Critical: this production is relatively affordable. I bought October matinee seats at the box office yesterday for $89 per. They’re front row second section of mezz. But you can see the show for as little as $59. In 2024, this is good news. The pricing structure is “reasonable.” I’m using the word with care because disposable income for theater isn’t in everyone’s budget. I’m a lucky TDF member, gaining access to 90% on Broadway.

The only time Nicole called out was shortly before opening and performances we cancelled. Otherwise, she never missed a show, and alternate Rachel Tucker was the only other Norma to get onstage during the run.

"

Not quite true. She called out during previews as you point out and they cancelled that performance.

She then missed a full weekend (Friday and two Saturday shows) but they announced this a few days in advance that Rachel would be going on. It felt like Nicole must’ve had some other event to attend as it certainly wasn’t ill health.

She never called out sick once during the run but of course, the Broadway run is much longer and the New York winter cold gets us all.

I wonder if she'll go back and forth to LA to film The Masked Singer at some point and miss some performances. I'd guess it'd be after the holidays and be back in time for Tony voting. She couldn't do that while being in London. She won't want to let go of a great gig by being out for too long (from The Masked Singer not the broadway show). I actually miss her on the show and prefer her to Rita Ora.

That makes Mandy sound like a standby with a guaranteed weekly performance.

If Mandy goes on when Nicole is out, I'm surprised they have a standby and not just an understudy.

Exactly. I thought the arrangement was more like Donna Murphy in Hello, Dolly!

Caroline is the official standby. She’s the one expected to be at the theatre for every show ready just in case but as a courtesy they’ll offer it to Mandy, depending on the situation.

As I said, in London, other than the preview cancellation, the only other shows Nicole missed were announced a few days in advance. So because the show knew this, they were able to have Rachel in place for those shows. In NY, I imagine they’ll ask Mandy first if they know Nicole is going to be out in advance.

However if Nicole is under the weather with minutes to go before showtime, it’ll be Caroline.

Unless Nicole has the immune system of a champ, I’d be very surprised if Caroline doesn’t get on. At least once.

I don't know what the laws are in the US, but here you don't have to listen to someone asking you to move for filming on a public sidewalk.  When film crews work here they put people on a corner who ask people to stop, but I just give them.the finger & keep walking.

there's zero reason to do this every day. it was cute the first time, but they need to stop as they will hurt someone eventually.

I can’t imagine Tom Francis is in the most relaxed of states during that number. While it sounds like it went smoothly in London most of the time, NYC will never not be risky and complicated at that time of night.

Apparently, they don't have legal permission to be doing this per a YouTube comment:

There is no record with the city of a filming permit that is open for every day of this, so they are likely doing this VERY illegally at the moment, especially given the way they are taking over public space, telling uninvolved pedestrians where they can walk, and holding traffic, etc. It’s not just that it’s NYC, it disrupts a crowded public area illegally.

Im very mixed on this production. Despite Nicole being astounding, I don’t think this concept works for me. The modernization is confusing, especially when they still project dates in the 40’s on the screen and have references to directors/stars from that time period while also we have Norma Desmond doing TikTok dances and the splits. It didn’t feel like the direction or concept was created out of inspiration pulled from the script and score, it felt like they wanted Nicole to do Sunset and modernized it to justify her casting. I went with a few people that had never seen Sunset or heard the score, and they all were very lost and had trouble following the plot. This, to me, is not good storytelling and therefore not good theatre. The whole thing feels indulgent and pretentious. Though this still does provide some thrilling moments.

Nicole is truly commanding that stage. Her acting is superb (even within the modern choices), and her vocals are astounding. Though I don’t agree with the direction of the character, I can see past that and see the nuances in her performance. I hope this leads to more of her doing Broadway

Whether they can legally tell people where to move or not; if you see a person who’s singing, two camera people, security guards, and cops moving toward you, your first instinct should ideally be to get out of the way. If a person’s instinct is to flip them the bird or obstruct what they’re doing, that says a lot about them. I understand crowded midtown streets can be overwhelming with the volume of people and a small film crew marching toward you, but - to me - it’s much easier to move to the side and stand still for a moment. Some people just lack common sense.

The other side of this is the amount of stuff that does get in peoples' way in midtown, especially that area, can lead to low tolerance in anyone. Some pedestrians may not "see" it as a camera crew and security when they've had to weave around Elmo, CD sellers, monks with bracelets, meth heads, and slow/indecisive walkers getting in the way generally.

At that point, it's just another thing interrupting them and they weren't gonna let it.
