What did they cut? I saw the show three times but didn’t really notice too many differences, aside from a missing verse in “Poor Pirates.”

Recording the broadcast tomorrow. 

Have the station on now as I haven't watched Nick in years. No problem with the commercials. It is a kids/family channel so the commercials are aimed at them.

Basically, very small things were cut throughout that surmounted into the 15 minutes. A lot of scenes with extensive dialogue had lines condensed/summarized, and verses from multiple songs were taken out. The best example off the top of my head is the opening Krusty Krab scene, which used to have a ton of dialogue between Squidward, SpongeBob, Mr. Krabs, and Pearl. In the broadcast, the entire scene was only like 60 seconds - and dramaturgically, you miss hardly anything.

There were truly no major moments cut - the only full scene I can recall is an Act 2 interaction between Karen and Plankton where he asks her to call him "Big guy." There was also less pauses for laughter, and jokes were delivered quicker. The pacing was also just faster throughout (except the Money song, which was oddly slowed down in tempo?). It helped that the audience was very English and restrained - I'm Not A Loser didn't get any reaction (that we heard at least) until it ended, where on Broadway it was milked for every second he was on stage.

I'm sure a megafan with more time that me will come up with a full list of cuts, but having seen the show on Broadway...a lot, I feel really happy with how it transferred onto the screen.

How lucky we are to have the brilliance of Ethan Slater and Gavin Lee’s performances, Tina Landau’s direction and David Zinn’s scenic design all preserved. With Tom Kenny as Patchy to boot!

I only got from Chop to the Top because I was with my family. Can’t wait to watch the whole thing again.

I enjoyed that. I thought the staging, scenery and costumes were all very clever.

This article discusses how the cuts were made - Lots of Stuff - but Also Landau Explains Cuts  "I always felt like the Broadway version was too long, but I didn't know how to get those minutes before we opened," Landau said. "I was so happy with how we ended up doing it because rather than cutting any whole songs, we did small nips and tucks and somehow got it down for the time. Coming back to this with a little distance, it was like, 'We don't need that favorite joke of mine.'"

I do think the show felt tighter last night and I agree with Landau that perhaps it was a tad too long on Broadway.

I wouldn’t be surprised if these cuts, like the Avenue Q cuts, are canonized when the show goes to licensing.

" Spongebob live" should pull it up. It's more expensive on iTunes than on Amazon Prime ($9.99).

As someone who has never watched the cartoon, I enjoyed this way more than I thought I would!  It was a really sweet way to pay tribute to the show, and all the actors were great!  There were also a lot of political undertones that I thought really went with the material.  The year SpongeBob was nominated was the first year I watched the Tonys, so I wasn't as informed about the situation surrounding the awards that year, but now I totally see how they deserved so many more Tonys (although I do feel My Fair Lady and SpongeBob should switch Tonys).  The announcement about this being filmed came out of nowhere, and I'm so glad the show was able to be preserved, especially since there was no "Broadway" cast album.

Didn't really enjoy it as much as I thought I would based on liking a few of the songs but the Foley effects were amazing and I was so happy to enjoy Broadway from my home since I missed it on-stage.

I forgot to DVR this last night. But it's repeated several times, including at 2pm ET Sunday, which I am right now in the process of DVR'ing.

However, I see that this re-broadcast is two hours in length, The initial Saturday broadcast was 2.5 hours (per zap2it.com). Does anyone know if this means that additional cuts were made for the re-broadcasts? Or did the original broadcast on Saturday just contain a lot of filler at the end? Or perhaps the re-broadcasts have fewer commercials? Anyone know the reason for the different running times?

The Amazon version is 1:54 long, so most likely it is the full version that aired Saturday

I think I must be getting old. I didn't much care for it, but I can see the draw for family audiences. It is certainly colorful, the set is clever, as are the costumes. It is certainly a design win, but I found the show itself to be loud and annoying.

PSA: The version being re-aired has been cut down even more, most noticeably a bunch of songs: “No Control,” “Daddy Knows Best.” “Poor Pirates,” “Bikini Bottom Boogie,” and “I Guess I Miss You.” Seems to be about another 30 minutes cut as this one ran a little under 1:30 plus commercials. So those who missed out the first time, you may want to just watch it on Amazon or iTunes if you wanna see the “full” show.

Just finished watching this on Amazon, and I think I enjoyed it almost as much as I did when I saw it live.  Some of the camera angles were pretty cool and I think they did capture that theater feel for the most part (though the audience clapping along at the end bothered me a bit).  I didn't notice the cuts too much, but the biggest thing I missed was probably the reprise of Bikini Bottom Day at the top of Act 2.  I'm so happy that this show has been preserved, and it's definitely worth the $3 just to see the performances and the visual design of this show.

Yup, same here...we found it unwatchable. Poor parents that had to endure it with their children. Colorful yes but not for us!

As I watched this on Amazon last night, I kept thinking "where are their microphones" as I didn't see one the entire show. Anyone know if they were singing live?
