I wonder if the vote got split between Comet and DEH on this one. Man...Comet is getting screwed tonight.
"
Completely agree. After seeing Great Comet lose so many other awards I thought director was a lock.
Perhaps this best direction win is the start of a turnaround for CFA tonight. Definitely feels like an upset for Ashley over Chavkin - but they did expert directing jobs, just very different kinds.

Guys.
I am just completely.
Heartbroken right now.
Maybe Direction was a consolation prize for possibly not getting Best Musical?
Dull number, but damn Christine and Patti are queens!!!

I think that's exactly what it means. DEH takes most awards, but loses the big prize to CFA.
I couldn't understand a single word Patti sang.
WOWOW FACE to FACE...Go Patti & Christine!!!!!!!!!!!!
Best performance of the night

I haven't seen War Paint yet. Is this number a good representation of it?

(1) I guess all the DEH haters out there can revel in the Director of a Musical
(2) I hope this doesnt signal a LA LA Land situation where DEH takes awards but misses out on the Best Musical because they want to throw a bone to CFA. I liked both, but CFA didnt match DEH for substance.
Cover the Tony with sugar and give it to CFA? UGH
Ridiculous...how would the voters know what the result were when placing thier vote for this category.

Very much. It is one of the most boring shows I have sat through in years.
Patti and Christine, best of the night so far!
War Paint number was precious. I know what I'm else watching in a loop tomorrow. Despite the universal diss, I actually really like "Penny In My Pocket" as well, so there's that for me. Let's see what The Great Comet does now.

This was my biggest problem with the show.
Her accent is maybe just a little too good.

I respect your opinion and completely disagree.

Uhh, the major award of the night would hardly be throwing a bone. I hate groupies. At least not as bad as ReNtheadz

You'd think CFA was Sound of Music. It's hardly sugary.
That WAR PAINT number didn't nothing.
War Paint, yawn, couldn't understand Patti, plus she always seems to play the same kinda character.
So far, really meh on the CFA and War Paint performances.
That was the most unfocused version of "Waving Through a Window" I have ever seen Platt do. It looked like he was struggling making the cuts and staging changes work. Still, it's a great performer doing a great song.
