I’ve had a few TDF seats that were far left or right and some of the stage was obstructed, BUT the tickets are not technically partial view seats. They are for sale regularly at full price.
TDF won’t sell “partial view” seats that have been officially designated so by the production.

I've used TDF a couple dozen times so far.  Most of my tickets have been great.  The only one I was disappointed in was "Hello Dolly".  It was far left, on the aisle.  I couldn't see part of the stage . It was really noticeable in the scene at the restaurant when they're having dinner. I couldn't see the younger folks at all, just Victor Garber and Bernadette Peters. 

I was annoyed, but given the prices for TDF tickets didn't say anything because it was still a great deal. I did look at the seating chart after I got home and it was a shown as a full price orchestra seat.  If I had paid the regular price I would have been p*ssed.

We had orchestra center seats for Hangmen on Monday. Row J. Perfect view. I’ve been lucky enough to often get really great seats through TDF.

It’s easy to forget/not realize that TDF has zero say over the location of the tickets, they are merely the ticket broker. It is up to each individual theater’s box office & producers to allocate TDF seats. For example, at the Golden I’ve been front row orchestra, last row side rear mezz, and everywhere in between. For Spring Awakening at the Brooks I was partial view front orchestra. But, for so many other shows, I’ve had stellar “premium” seats. It just depends on how the producers feel about treating TDF members. It’s usually a better marketing tactic to give them better seats as the word of mouth could be stronger after a good experience, but many theaters feel at $45, you’ll sit where you’ll sit.

Had row C center orchestra for The Minutes last night. Perfect seat for the show. I was very pleasantly surprised after the couple negative reports here about the seats, but it’s the blessing and curse of TDF that the seating varies night to night and is somewhat random.

Saw “The Minutes” tonight and lucked out with row A (third row), center orchestra. Unbelievable seat, could practically touch the actors.

Got incredibly lucky last week when TDF had Company up for ~10 minutes. Not sure if it will be up again (one can hope!) but wanted to share where my seats were. 

I had a party of 6, and have never ordered more than 3 TDF tickets at once so I was really nervous about where we'd be seated, but amazingly we were left orchestra, split into a group of 4 and 2 seats, rows L and M, seats 9 - 15. 

Go see the show! TDF or otherwise.

Adding to what @voteperson said... Yes, you should remember that TDF does not assign seat locations. That is up to the box office.

However, the seats ARE supposed to be in certain price zones. for instance, if I allocate seats to TDF that are $50 at full price, they will appear on the TDF site as $25. So their pricing is base on the price zone offered to them. Broadway shows often get away with seating TDF ticket buyers outside of the designated price zone because TDF always does better when they offer Broadway tickets. But I once got a stern warning from TDF because in the off-bway theater I worked for, one of their buyers was sat one row behind the "correct" price zone. (I had given them an aisle seat, which I actually deemed to be a better location than what was left in the correct zone which was closer but on the side of the house. Also the price difference was minimal, maybe $7-10, and it was about 150 seats in the house with no bad view. The company shouldn't have even created multiple price zones tbh, but i digress). But the patron pulled up her phone to look at our website after being seated and noticed she was a row behind what the ticket was worth and complained to TDF. Still can't believe she complained about a central aisle seat.

Anyway, the point being that you can sometimes figure out the possible areas you would be in a theater based on prices (and we all know that most broadway houses try to price as high as possible, so something you deem to have a partial view on the side orch might still be an $80-90 seat). If you get a better location, then the house was undersold and its your lucky day b/c the box office used TDF to fill in some gaps in better locations.

I've gotten really lucky with TDF so much that it is my preferred method of seeing shows. Various box offices have placed me in the following seats for the past couple weeks:

(2) Center mezz for Girl from North Country

(1) 2nd row center orch for The Minutes

(1) Front row center orch for Hangmen - worth mentioning that almost the entire first row was TDF single ticket purchasers.

TDF is objectively the best value for essentially every Broadway show it offers. I'm very grateful for it.

Even when they offer rush or lottery tickets, these days they're only a few bucks less and the seats tend to be far worse on average.

Is there any rhyme or reason as to when TDF is updated with new ticket offers? Seems like the past few months I only see a few of the same shows (except the occasional JLP that has a ton of performances)... Should I be checking at a particular time? Thank you :)

After being a member for about 7 years, I think there is definitely a pattern. I Have a desk job so I check TDF often during the day (I mean VERY often), so I think most new tickets show up between 11am-1pm and after 3pm. That's just my observation.

I also think you tend to see more tickets posted earlier in the week (Monday/Tuesday). I tend to check the site a lot, but I've also gotten a lot of good tips by setting an alert for this message board (thanks, everyone!).

Thank you Thank you Thank you!  My most anticipated show of the season!  Grabbed a couple of seats for 3/18!  worried about trying to deal with st. paddy's day shenanigans on the 17th.

Hangmen tonight. God, the Golden is awfully uncomfortable. 

we were extreme right of the front mezzanine, Row C. Mezz Left is probably better but we didnt miss much. we were so cramped and uncomfortable and moved to the rear mezz, which was emptier, for act 2.

For Virginia Woolf yesterday afternoon I was mezzanine row B seat 18 (aisle seat on the far right side). I saw about 98% of the show since there is very little that goes on far stage left. Plus, you can't beat an aisle seat for a three hour play!

I got tickets the week Patti and Caissie left and got rear orchestra and it was a perfect view.
