They’re silver in the musical, too… and they are only lit red when Elphaba is casting a spell on them.

I took this more as Elphie sarcasm rather than a question…

They don't have the rights to the 1939 film. Those rights are owned by Warner Bros (who acquired them from MGM at some point). This is, officially speaking, basedonlyon the public domain Baum books.
Sorry, I should have made my point more clear. I’m more surprised they didn’t pay for the usage of the Ruby Slippers. Given that the aesthetics of Wicked borrows heavily from the 1939 movie, which this film seems to do even more.

They're nor ruby in the musical either. Doesn't Nessa say they're on fire and they turn red? I bet they will be just of the color and not have to pay for the rights.

I’d agree with that. And obviously they can’t show everything in a 60sec teaser, it’s just such a departure from the rant she goes on

Yeah, they really should have conveyed that in the 57 seconds of footage of a first teaser. Unbelievable.
I’m indifferent about Cynthia, I loved her when I saw her in the Color Purple in London all those years ago. She lost me with the Oak issue. Honestly she doesn’t look right for this.
Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist.
Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino.
This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more.

I thought 5 things, It has a very generic cgi videogame look, Ariana Grande's acting is very, very poor, Glinda looks 12 and Elphaba looks 45, Michelle Yeoh's acting is great, that last note of Defying Gravity is just terrible, abortive and can't be true.

In all the scenes we see in the trailer we can see that it does not work. Glinda is not supposed to look scared, insecure and defeated in all scenes. Something is very off.

In less than a minute of multiple out-of-sequence scenes, you were able to make determinations about the quality of anyone's acting? You must have amazing perception.
I am also surprised that you are declaring that it has a CGI videogame look. The film uses almost entirely practical sets and effects.

Didn't Bowen Yang say Dillamond is CGI and the voice will be added in post but isn't cast yet? I believe Bowen also indicated Dillamond would be female.
Just remembering you've had an "and"
When you're back to "or"
Makes the "or" mean more than it did before

That's not entirely true. They built and used many huge sets for the film, but it's very obvious all of the wide shots in the trailer are entirely CGI.
I don't think I've ever seen so many conclusions being drawn from 57 seconds of footage of what presumably represents 4-5 hours of finished material. Like I know Broadway fans are fickle, but come ON.
Tina Fey really did spill about "Broadway TikTokers" on Bowen's podcast last week.
It’s hilarious how a 1 minute montage teaser trailer of a 4 hour plus 2-part film is being dissected. Entire performances are being analyzed based on 2-3 second audio and video clips. My favorite is the comment that Michelle Yeoh’s acting is fantastic when the few 1 second footage we see she’s basically emulating an expression (her audio is used as a voiceover). I’m surprised no one has said how insane Bowen Yang looks in the trailer and how his glance at Glinda is layered with so much information and he’s definitely winning every award for his few minutes in the film.

There is literally 1 shot in the whole trailer of 40 shots that is not CGI and that is the university schoolyard.

In case you didn't know, acting and realism is in the eyes. It only takes a second to know. Skip tv channels and judge for yourself, you will learn to see.
Trailers are the single most important tool in marketing a movie. Millions and millions of people see them. Regardless of what Wicked turns out to be as a movie, the trailer is a failure. What’s surprising is how flat footed and dull it seems.

You mean the trailer you said wasn't going to show any film footage?
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I found this trailer to be fantastic. It was everything I wanted! I think there is a great balance of practical sets and CGI.
Additionally, I found the growl in Cynthia's battle call to be a great choice. I think she sounds incredible, and I cannot wait to hear the soundtrack. Question - will there be two soundtracks released to coincide with both movies?
Granted, it's a short trailer, so hard to form any full-fledged opinions, but I get the sense that Ari's Glinda is more grounded than what we have seen from many of the actresses who have played her on stage. Over the years, many actresses have chosen to play her completely unhinged and over-the-top in hopes of getting cheap laughs. What I loved about the earlier actresses who played her (Kristin, JLT, Megan Hilty) is that they were able to strike the balance without crossing into the unhinged territory.
