Great news ahead of its Nov. 22 opening: Universal‘s feature take of stage musical Wicked has posted first day advance ticket sales on Fandango which rank as the retailer’s second best year-to-date behind Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine. As you know that Disney theatrical release posted a first day of $96.1M and 3-day of $211.4M. Wicked hits theaters the Friday before Thanksgiving.
At Universal Studios Hollywood theme park they just put up the various Wicked movie posters up at the guest entrance. Plus the Wicked merchandise store is near opening on the upper lot too. Can't wait to see what is going to be available.

If this is an indication of things to come, then Wicked might actually beat Mamma Mia! and Grease as a top box office winner when it comes to film adaptations of Broadway musicals. I hope that is the case, because Wicked is the much better musical of the three. As for the whole Wicked vs Gladiator II thing, just looking at my movie theater when it comes to ticket sales, Wicked is quickly getting sold and filling the seats whereas Gladiator II is struggling a bit. November 22nd and the Thanksgiving weekend after is going to be quite interesting, that's for sure.

Especially given that Moana 2 will be released during the latter weekend, and could make a (pun intended) splash.
Cynthia Erivo has posted on Instagram Stories about a fan-made poster that tried to duplicate the original better than the one the production released last week, and it's a blown-way-out-of-proportion doozy.:

She is sooooo intense. I regret to say that this post of hers is camp of the highest value.
While I normally give anything Cynthia says an eye roll, I actually agree with her on this. The amount of people creating their own edits to "fix it" to match the Broadway poster is galling to me. The movies is its own thing. The poster design is intentional. It doesn't need to adhere to what some people think it should be.

It's a fan edit to match up with the original show. This is galling?

But do you agree that a fan's redesign of a movie poster is "the most offensive thing," degrading, an effort to erase someone, and deeply hurtful? I mean, give me a break. What a weird and out-of-touch reaction.

Is she unaware of how many rabid fans there are of the original musical? And she's reposting and shaming an account that has less than 100 followers - has she ever heard of the Streisand effect? Get a grip lady - it's fan art - nothing more - nothing less.
A friend told me Erivo was complaining about the fan edits of the poster but didn't say exactly what she said, so I just rolled my eyes and moved on. Just saw Deadline's article and what she actually wrote...and burst out laughing in the office.
"I am a real life human being who chose to look right down the barrel of the camera to you, the viewer… because, without words we communicate with our eyes"
Even if it weren't completely ridiculous, it also doesn't speak well of her abilities as an actress. The original poster communicates plenty without the eyes. You, a real life human being and professional actress, are less capable of communicating with your face alone than a drawing? (And frankly, the original stage poster DOES communicate more than her blank stare in the movie poster.)
"to edit my face and hide my eyes is to erase me."
Good GAWD. Sooooo over-the-top. Soooo dramatic. So full of herself.
She’s one of those people who just need to step away and think for five minutes before posting to social media. Remember when everyone was a racist for fan casting her as the lead Muse before Hercules ever hit the stage? A role voiced in the film by Lillias White? And, let’s be real, if she had caught wind of anyone suggesting any white actors for that role she would have lobbed accusations of racism at them as well for white washing a black role.
Now do I think people were getting ridiculous for the way they were insisting that the movie had to recreate the Broadway key art before they had done it? Yes. Yet her response to this fan-made edit is equally ridiculous
The only social media I do is Facebook. I have seen a few racial comments regarding her playing the part. One of my first thoughts is that she may have seen them and this fan art pushed her over the edge.
However, looking at the fan art, I notice that Grande appears as she does in the poster released last week. My thought is that whoever did the fan art did it specifically to highlight the Elphaba character. Maybe an Elphie fan. I would think Erivo would think it was cool that the person actually did a nice job matching the original Broadway art. Also, it is very clear that it is her. We don't need to see her eyes to know it is her. The original Broadway art really did not resemble Menzel.
I lost some respect for Erivo after the Great Comet stuff. I was not really excited about her being cast in this film as Elphaba and for a while thought I would not see it. But decided I would. I am interested in what more will be included from the book and I have really been impressed with what I have seen. So I put my feelings about her aside. I will still see the movie but she just needs to get over herself. This show still has dedicated fans and I am sure there may be fan art out there that she may not like. Unless this fan did this to be nasty, which I doubt, it is FAN art. They love the show and are excited about the movie. Just my random thoughts.
