OK stop w the gloom and doom.

Yes it is very bad, but all Dem members need to start NOW w examining what went wrong ( ie rural voters like I said 60 pages back) and preparing for MidTerm elections. The same old obviously won't work any more- get new faces who can speak to people on a grassroots level. Donny can't pull EVERYthing to pieces in a year or two  and when his base sees he is just another lying pol they won't be so forgiving at the Midterms.  ESP if the Dems can offer something better.  START now w rebuilding the party and the brand . Remember, don't curse the darkness, light a candle!

Please, for the sake of everything you value in this life.

Micheal Moore's Facbook page: Nov 9 2016

Morning After To-Do List:
1. Take over the Democratic Party and return it to the people. They have failed us miserably.
2. Fire all pundits, predictors, pollsters and anyone else in the media who had a narrative they wouldn't let go of and refused to listen to or acknowledge what was really going on. Those same bloviators will now tell us we must "heal the divide" and "come together." They will pull more hooey like that out of their ass in the days to come. Turn them off.
3. Any Democratic member of Congress who didn't wake up this morning ready to fight, resist and obstruct in the way Republicans did against President Obama every day for eight full years must step out of the way and let those of us who know the score lead the way in stopping the meanness and the madness that's about to begin.
4. Everyone must stop saying they are "stunned" and "shocked". What you mean to say is that you were in a bubble and weren't paying attention to your fellow Americans and their despair. YEARS of being neglected by both parties, the anger and the need for revenge against the system only grew. Along came a TV star they liked whose plan was to destroy both parties and tell them all "You're fired!" Trump's victory is no surprise. He was never a joke. Treating him as one only strengthened him. He is both a creature and a creation of the media and the media will never own that.
5. You must say this sentence to everyone you meet today: "HILLARY CLINTON WON THE POPULAR VOTE!" The MAJORITY of our fellow Americans preferred Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump. Period. Fact. If you woke up this morning thinking you live in an effed-up country, you don't. The majority of your fellow Americans wanted Hillary, not Trump. The only reason he's president is because of an arcane, insane 18th-century idea called the Electoral College. Until we change that, we'll continue to have presidents we didn't elect and didn't want. You live in a country where a majority of its citizens have said they believe there's climate change, they believe women should be paid the same as men, they want a debt-free college education, they don't want us invading countries, they want a raise in the minimum wage and they want a single-payer true universal health care system. None of that has changed. We live in a country where the majority agree with the "liberal" position. We just lack the liberal leadership to make that happen (see: #1 above).

Let's try to get this all done by noon today.
-- Michael Moore

I don't give a single **** about the despair of the scum who voted for Trump. They deserve their despair - and much, much worse.

I haven't been on here for a day or two.  I'm having trouble accessing prior pages in this thread (server issues?), but, frankly, I don't need to relive yesterday all over again.  Just want to say, allow yourselves to experience the very genuine feeling you're having.  It's called grief.  Go through those stages and when you, begrudgingly or not, arrive at acceptance and worry that there's nothing you can do (beyond protesting) while the Left and the Democratic party rebuilds, there is.

If you have the means, consider a modest donation to the ACLU or NARAL or The Southern Poverty Law Center.  The next four years are going to see some of the most draconian executive and legislative action in recent memory.  The ACLU (and others) have pledged to see Trump in court should he follow through on his unconstitutional campaign promises.  It's an important pledge, but a costly one.

I think the doom and gloom is blown way out of proportion. I don't get why everyone thinks they are getting deported now when he had said illegal immigrants which means he's just upholding the law that's already in place. Gay marriage isn't going to be overturned. A lot of it is wait and see but the country will be fine.

46.9% of eligible voters didn't vote. What does that tell you about these 2 candidates? Almost half the country didn't care enough about either to go vote for them or against them. We knew we were getting **** either way.

It's worth noting that the "struggling working class for Trump" vs. "elite for Hilary" narrative is not fitting the polls.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/nov/09/white-voters-victory-donald-trump-exit-polls

White and wealthy voters gave victory to Donald Trump, exit polls show

Far from being purely a revolt by poorer whites left behind by globalisation, who did indeed turn out in greater numbers for the Republican candidate than in 2012, Trump’s victory also relied on the support of the middle-class, the better-educated and the well-off.

Of the one in three Americans who earn less than $50,000 a year, a majority voted for Clinton. A majority of those who earn more backed Trump.

As a Facebook friend recently wrote: can you think of a time when 12 million people were forcibly removed from their homes that we do not call an atrocity?

I have to agree with you that marriage equality is not likely threatened. Of course the Obergefell majority is still in place, and even when that changes, I don't think the court is going to reverse itself on a major decision like this, at least in the foreseeable future.

Here's Michael Cerveris's reaction to the election (I'm sure many of you have seen it already). It's delightfully vindictive.

----------------

I do not concede.

I will not make nice with bigots and racists. I will not "reach out" to those who would oppress my brothers and sisters and take away their hard-won rights.

I will not cooperate with those who have shown their disregard for the laws of decency and civility and compassion.

I will not reward those who traffic in the politics of fear, hate and brutality in act or speech or thought with my allegiance or loyalty.

I will not forget, excuse or dismiss the despicable things you have said and done on the way to this 'victory.'

You lied and scared people enough to win a statistic popularity contest. You did not win my heart or spirit or good will. You have done nothing to deserve it, and unless and until you do, you will NEVER have it.

Instead you have my promise that I will look for ways to defeat you at every turn. To whatever extent I can, I will not give my money or my patronage to those who support you or applaud you or think like you. I will stand between you and those of my brothers and sisters you mean to denigrate, disenfranchise and disregard. I will work for and look to celebrate your undoing--legally, but steadfastly. I will support all those who will stand in your way.

I will speak up and defy you.

I will call your sins by name.

Racist

Bigot

Misogynist

Elitist

Liar

Cheat

Huckster

Narcissist

Buffoon

I will hold responsible all those who followed you and made your rise possible by their collaboration--including the media and others on our side who neglected their responsibility to the country, profited by your ascent, and refused to stand up to you sooner

I will not "heal and mend" with the very people who have sickened the country, planted and fed the disease at its heart.

I will work to make a new one

I will remember and I will watch and I will wait and I will work.

I will never be united with you.

Work was hard to stomach yesterday.  It's a shame because I love where I work. But,  I lost a bit of respect for some of my coworkers.  Then again, they seem to be in the group who are "I don't experience it, it's not my problem." One also made some horrible generalizations about those who voted for Hillary.  Her idea was that Trump started surging at 5pm because all the Republicans got out of work to vote and Democrats don't.  That was insulting because I was standing there at work, doing my job. I also do so much more there than is expected of me. But again,  "Oh, I wasn't insulting you because I know you are better. It's just everyone else, who I don't know."

And to those who don't think he can overturn things, I'm sure people were thinking the same things about Hitler.

And despite what Trump says about getting Mexico to build and fund his wall, you bet we will be paying for it.

Voter turnout numbers have little to do with thoughts on the candidates.....America NEVER has an impressive number here.   I've seen some polls say voter turnout was record breaking, and other say it was down just a little from record breaking 2012.    Either way, it puts it on the high end of turnout numbers.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Cerveris has the right attitude. Obama doesn't. F*CK Obama for his efforts to further normalize President Trump.

ETA: It seems like this system doesn't always treat my use of F*CK the same way. Sometimes it's all asterisks and sometimes it's not. Weird.

I wonder who'll step in as Trump's svengali.  No one's going to leave the man to his own devices despite his continent-sized ego.  Dubyah had Cheney.  Several people had Obama's ear as well the occasional flea, I'm told.

There'll likely be much larger egos in the cabinet than Pence's, especially if Giuliani and Gingrich hit paydirt.

I think KellyAnne Conway, once she came aboard he seemed to calm down. or Governor Christie
