”Broadway shows are trying really hard to stay open at a very difficult time. Tonight, an unusual example: At "Thoughts of a Colored Man," playwright @keenanthemuse is going on (with script in hand), along with two understudies, so the show can go on despite cast absences.”
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

As Cherry Jones once said, "I have doubtfires. I have such doubtfires.""
They held a rehearsal today in preparation to reopen tomorrow, so obviously they've got some kind of contingency plan being put into place.

I had tickets tonight for Shaina Taub's Twelfth Night at San Francisco Playhouse. My fiancé and I had just gotten in the car to leave when I got an e-mail saying tonight's performance was canceled (about an hour and 15 minutes before curtain). The explanation was "circumstances beyond our control", so read into that what you will.
Obviously the most important thing is the company stays safe. I wasn't even *that* inconvenienced, given we hadn't actually left. I'm mostly just frustrated and scared that this is now hitting the local theater scene as well. California has been behind New York in Omicron cases. I guess it was just a matter of time until we caught up.
I just saw a tweet by Lindsay Pearce where she stated that “what you don’t do is message performers when their shows are cancelled and ask them to send video messages to make up for the show being cancelled/shut down.”
I have also seen countless tweets of people blaming the artists themselves, or the theatre managers/producers who make the call to stop the show.
People are simply losing their minds, maybe more so when Broadway was shut down in 2020.

I’d send them a video explaining why they should be sterilized.
This might be an interesting time to see THOUGHTS OF A COLORED MAN if you haven’t. The playwright is expected to be in the show through the weekend due to “one COVID related and two non-COVID related illnesses”

This is right out of the Trump line of reasoning. “Test less and then we won’t have as many positive cases to deal with.”
A-symptomatic spread will result in people getting infected and possibly having a symptomatic case, or worse.
In an industry which is full of singing, resulting in whatever’s inside the body coming outside the body to linger in the air,in a packed auditorium, this would be a foolish approach. IMO."
Isn't that the direction we need to move in though? A focus on symptomatic cases instead of cases in general? I actually feel like the NFL is a little bit ahead of where we will be eventually as a society."
I agree. This is where we need to move. Just like the flu- you only test if you have flu symptoms. You don't test the entire office for the flu if only one person is positive for it."
Adotburr- I tried to PM you with the information you requested but your account doesn’t accept PMs
Good for Lindsay Pearce. I think some Broadway artists would've been afraid to say things like this for risk of alienating their fan-base. But I'm glad we're seeing more and more examples in recent years of performers being open about their boundaries.
@Jordan - looks like someone asked her if she had directed them to her Cameo page, and Pearce said "no" very decisively. I guess she feels that she'd rather not make a fake-happy video for people who pissed her off, even if it means giving up the money. If she HAD directed them to her Cameo, I think it would've been perfectly reasonable, but I also respect that she's sticking to her principles.

@unclevictor - Sure, fair point. I stand corrected on that wording.
But I think that also supports my point in a roundabout way: yeah, Pearce probably doesn't have a "fan base," but she's clearly someone who has fans, otherwise people wouldn't have been sending her messages like that. And I think a lot of Broadway actors do try to cultivate their social media presence to be very fan-friendly, and they can use that to try to raise their professional profile. And someone like Pearce might feel like she's in an even more precarious position, because she has some fans, but not a real fan base. And therefore might feel that she's jeopardizing some potential future by speaking out on something like this.
But as I said, I'm glad she doesn't feel that pressure, because she's correct, and any real fans wouldn't begrudge her that.
Re: Lindsay Pearce, I am a fan of her work and respect her, but no way would I send her or anyone a message like that. The messages she should be receiving are along the lines of - I’m sorry the show got cancelled today and I look forward to seeing the show soon. Stay healthy.
