I couldn't find a thread about this already but feel free to redirect me if I missed it.
The teaser trailer was just released today and doesn't tell us too much but I've been curious about possible changes to the traditonal story since they announced Billy Porter as "Fab G", though I also wonder why it seems that we need yet another Cinderella story to be told again.
Also is it just me or does Billy Porter look vaguely like he's trying to replace Jason Derulo in the Cats movie?
Not to downplay it, but a male character being the one to help Cinderella get to the ball is not an original idea, from Alidoro in Rossini's La Cenerentola to Leonardo da Vinci in Ever After.
The basic premise of the story goes back thousands of years and shows up in the folk tales of numerous cultures. There will always be people wanting to tell their own version of it, that's never going to end.
I thought most people here would be turned off by James Corden as one of the footmen AND Idina Menzel as the evil stepmother. Regardless, this looks like another musical misfire from Sony.
This looks like something most of us will secretly enjoy but never admit to publicly. Obviously it’s a small teaser but I think Cabello come across as charming which is more than I was expecting.

Exactly! You said that so well! Cinderella is my favorite thing, ever, so even I am making my own version!
This looks better than I thought it was going to be! I love the costumes, the castle, the singing, the lyrics, the acting! Well, so far so good! I can't wait!

Since the general comments in this thread lean towards "Pass" on the film, can we focus on Billy Porter for a minute (or two)?
I cannot say enough re: the mad praise/respect I have for Billy Porter (and possibly his stylist, if there is one contributing). NO ONE can wear couture like Billy Porter. He epitomizes the lyric, "I am my own, special creation".
When other males wear clothing that's historically been associated with femininity, they either carry it off to perfection (i.e., drag queens who look fabulously, and exquisitely feminine), or they look slightly visually disjointed, in a "what's wrong with this picture" kind of way. I'm thinking of Kid Kudi's SNL dress.
As a gay man, I'm attracted to masculinity. Kudi is an attractive man, and the dress was also attractive, but I didn't find combining the two to be as attractive as each was separately. Beautiful man, beautiful dress, but combining the two did not project an even more beautiful picture.
Billy Porter's couture ALWAYS trips my trigger, however. What he wears emphasizes and compliments his masculine form. It's like how adding a pinch of salt can elevate the flavors of foods.
I have the same reaction to Scottish bagpipers. A man can wear a tee shirt and a skirt and look good, but a Scottsman in formal attire/kilt is so, SOOO hot.

But it’s our trash, so we’ll love it to the dump and back!

I agree, Billy Porter looks amazing as the Fab G! He looks so pretty and perfect despite being a man, and the way he says, "You wanna go to that ball?" is perfect!
4 days until this movie comes out and honestly, Everybody's Talking About Jamie is the only Amazon Prime movie musical (other than Annette which I really liked) that I'm looking forward to.
I just hope people don’t hate watch this one - it’s more than likely to be awful, but it won’t matter because a hate watch still counts as a viewing on Prime’a end of things. I want this movie to come and go faster than Glory Days on Broadway.

Oh wow! I'm surprised someone remembered that musical and it's infamous Broadway run. It made Carrie look like a success story.
Why, Giants? What did this movie ever do to you? Why do you actively WANT the people involved to have an embarrassing flop? Kinda sad the energy you’re putting into actively wishing people to fail.

Maybe you should "know" better people? Seriously -- what has Corden ever done to cause so many theatre fanatics to go mental (other than support Broadway and live theatre on his show, host the Tonys, bring national attention to musicals, etc.)? It's the Rosie O'Donnell thing all over again.
