For many of us it's where we work or regularly commute through and have no privilege of avoiding this area. That's why we have noticed this awful situation. NYC is a huge city, if you go by the population numbers but certainly not by the area. That's why us residents couldn't help but noticing that the number of migrants that moved to NYC is equal to a mid size American city and we all feel it. But you know where there's a plenty of space? The rest of NY state. It's just that everyone from those red-lined towns are no longer even pretending to be not NIMBY. Look at Queens and Staten Island residents who keep protesting and are themselves largely immigrants. And our governor Hochul thinks those people alone will be able to re-elect her.
It's great you don't have to trip on trash and people sitting and sleeping on sidewalks, bike and moped lanes, except when you're visiting a theater, but the majority of us live in a different reality. The schools starts next week and 19,000 migrant children will be allowed to attend without any vaccinations. This will soon open another can of worms and as a parent of two school aged children, I'm here to watch it closely."
It seems a bit confusing. The AG issued the letter but it seems that she also said that counties must go by their rules. Monroe county has said that if the kids have no immunization records, the county will vaccinate them to be in line with the requirements of the kids who live there.
I love how threads/posts about Beanie in FUNNY GIRL get deleted and flagged by the mods, but this thread is just a continuing trainwreck of lies and opinions.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Yeah, what lies? Or do you mean “likes”? Because the comments describing the truth about the issue have far more thumbs-up from readers than the comments with their head in the sand.

To be fair, if there were no opinions, this message board would just be discount codes and rush reports.

Why haven't the mods locked this thread? I even mentioned Beanie, which usually gets it deleted easily around here.

Why would they? What’s wrong with talking about things as they actually are? Can’t people talk about negative experiences in a changed environment without being called bigots? Go stand outside the Row Hotel for a day and see how you like it.
Actually, don’t bother. You’d probably just convince yourself til you’re blue in the face that everything’s just great.
As some who does not live in the city but would frequently visit for shows I will say:
1) there is a extreme change in safety (for the worse) that has occurred in recent years and is nowhere near as safe or clean as the city used to be when I first went in 2010. There is far more crime in broad daylight. Open drug use and needles. People on the streets. And the crazies In the street. It really is so so sad. When I was there in April having not been since November 2019
2) I will also agree that the type of shows and ticket prices have kept me away too. I’ve always had a set “entertainment “ budget. That has remained the same throughout the ten years. I used to be able to visit 10-12 shows in a week. This last time I saw 5. And over spent my budget. Also. There really aren’t many interesting shows and not many “stars”. Normally I like to mix my shows between the two. But even the Josh Groban Sweeney was way overpriced for what you got. I wish they had more “events” mixed in ala hello Dolly or the best man. And it’s become 60% revivals or new shows that come across more as sermons than pieces of art and interest. (I’m also pretty well over the jukebox and bio musicals,.. please be original)
The city is definitely in rough shape at the moment, and regardless of what side your personal politics might align with, its easy to observe the city is in dire need of visionary leadership. Do I think its affecting Broadway? I think tourists who are intimidated by what the media makes of the immigrant crises in the city might think twice about visiting, if they feel their safety is concerned. I've really been surprised, post COVID in general, that there hasn't been a more concentrated effort to clean up the Times Square area, especially as the city is ever incresingly dependent on tourists to generate income.

The mods are so reactionary at this point they're probably the ones who started this thread.
And this post will be deleted for subversive thinking in 5...4...3...2...
I agree that it’s just silly when residents (especially here in midtown/HK) say that everything is great, it certainly isn’t. This isn’t about the migrant crisis specifically but that combined with the homeless/mental health/drugs issue has absolutely impacted the area. I’m not going to say I don’t feel safe but I’m certainly more cautious now at times. The other day a dude was running around the playground on 48/10 screaming at people in there and chasing them out, stopping traffic while they ran away from him saying he was gonna kill them, yesterday a woman wrapped in a blanket dropped it and walked completely naked yelling at people around me about how she dropped her blanket, combined with the drugs from around the shelters that are still in use in hotels etc there’s a lot more people with problems around now than there was pre-Covid.
What I’m saying is that - things could be better and people who deny it either don’t live here or are purposely putting their heads in the sand for some sort of righteous reason. There’s nothing wrong with talking about problems in the city that need to be fixed, how else would they ever GET fixed if we didn’t address them.
And we need to get Eric Adams the hell out of office ASAP.
You folks here are entertaining and never disappoint when it comes to discussing anything politically controversial. It's interesting that conservatives or "non-lefties", if not entirely, mostly offer an opinion without attacking the lefties for simply being on the left. Contrast that with what the lefties too often do. The lefties, as demonstrated here, will either attack the opposing side for simply being on the opposing side or avoid the argument, throw out a quip and stick their heads in the sand....or both. And requesting a perceived pointless topic to be deleted is absurd. Why is the merit of an argument so offensive to so many of you? To be fair, some on the left do make an earnest attempt at discussing the merits of the argument, but my gosh, do you not see the absurdity with so many willingly participating here but avoiding the argument? In fact, they are attempting squash any argument. "Get in line, else you're an evil POS?", isn't that what you're really saying?
Kad said: "I am shocked, shocked!,by which members are most disturbed by the increased presence of immigrants in midtown."
This quoted comment is absurd. I know Kad is not stupid. To the contrary, he is quite intelligent. Unreasonable though, he is. The "presence of immigrants" bothers no one here. It's the fact these immigrants came here illegally AND they are putting a burden on the tax payers the tax payers did not sign up for. There are significant problems to be dealt with, and "putting your head in the sand", jumping up and down and being appalled by those who believe the rule of law is significantly important is simply unreasonable.
The headline of this thread is unfortunate. I have been living in NYC for 20 years and have been an avid Broadway goer for even longer. Post-Covid NYC with its marked increases in crime/homelessness/the mental health crisis coupled with the droves of migrants around The Row have definitely created a very “lively” and different land scape around the area.
As someone who lives in Brooklyn, my theater going habits have completely changed Post-Covid. I am much less likely to go see shows at night just because of the unpredictable nature of the subways. I have never felt unsafe in the city until after Covid, and try to avoid the subways around the area at night. It’s less blaming the migrants for where we are now and realizing that New York City has been utterly changed after 2020, and in my opinion not for the better.
I work front of house - I can reveal to you last fall two FOH workers from theaters on west 44th were robbed by the migrants near the Row- both times using a decoy to distract and another person coming at them with a weapon - they will not tell you this - it was swept under the rug - it was last December - yes it’s a crisis- anyone who tells you otherwise is not being intellectually honest - because admitting the crisis makes the president look bad- so they will never admit it - Republican would do the same thing if current president was Republican- loyalty to ideology and political affiliation is a cancer to thinking rationally - it’s dangerous - the migrant situation is a mess - it’s costly - it’s unfair to tax payers - and a decent amount of the “ migrants” are freeloaders who are using this as an opportunity to party in hotel rooms - this is verified if you speak to hotel workers and some of them are violent - not most - a minority - still to deny the issue is lunacy and it’s only done because someone who is a “ Democrat “ or “ left” won’t concede to the criticism and of a failed policy of the brand they are loyal to- on this case Democrat, liberal, left , or Biden

No your an ideologue- blinded by loyalty to a party and politician - the migrant thing is real - tell my two co workers on Broadway who were assaulted and robbed by migrants from the row - how they are “ wingnuts” - these are real people - real people don’t obsess over R and D- your caught up in this garbage and it clouds your ability to think
Matt Rogers said: "Well, it’s official. This site has finally been infiltrated by right wing bigots."
No not bigots or necessarily right wingers - people who are honest and not blinded by ideology- guess what ? I’m Hispanic - live in Bronx - work on Broadway in the theaters - I see this stuff- yeah there is a crisis - you are so loyal to your ideology - you can’t see reality - I’m not - I vote for republicans and democrats and voted for libertarians and Green Party - not ideological- so maybe take your blinders off and loyalty to D and progressive ideology for a moment
Everybody says they miss the days when Broadway was creating shows like Chorus Line and the Sondheim/Prince collaborations, well part of that was a dangerous and crime-ridden Times Square.

Wow, talk about reaching. They miss the shows, not the crime rate.

It was certainly easier (and felt just as, if not MORE safe) walking through Times Square during the years of porn stores and hookers than it is now trying to wade through hordes of midwestern families and tourist groups walking 5 abreast and stopping for photo ops with Elmo and Spiderman.
