I haven’t seen it, but was Beanie that good of a dancer that Lea Michelle wouldn’t be able to handle choreography that was created for her, or is Lea Michelle that bad of a dancer that she couldn’t even handle choreography created for a lead who wasn’t really known as a dancer either?"
There is no need to create new choreography for Rat-Tat-Tat-Tat - Benko can't dance, her version is dumbed down to basic creative movement. (I am a B-way dancer). Beanie did a simplified version of the choreo - well executed. From what I understand, Ephie is the only fanny that has top level tap skills and is doing it full out.
2. Stating a fact is not bullying. At best, the comment is snarky.
3. The production isn't looking for ways to spend MORE money (obtaing the rights for My Man).
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
Producers enough already! Put the damn song in and give the audience what they want! If you want to make it to the end of your run in January and recoup your losses to this point just give the audience what they want! And please don’t have her sing people doubled over in pain on the chair. The audience knew we were in trouble when that song started. Give her the stage!
…and please fix that dumb - sorry - insulting - curtain call - give the star her shining moment at the end not some schticky moment that frankly doesn’t work!
Glad to see they cut the sleeves off the last mumu - now dress - and gave it some shape!
I finally saw this last night. Julie Benko, Jeremiah James, and Liz McCartney were absolutely wonderful. The entire cast was. That being said, the set was atrocious and I the book (especially in act two) dragged and dragged. I don't know if I'm in the minority here or not, but I think I would've rather seen the show performed as originally written without the additions of "Temporary Arrangement" and "Funny Girl". The staging was also puzzling - and I'm puzzled to hear that they've been making changes, yet have kept things in that genuinely do not work (such as the ladder in Greatest Star). Overall, I'm very happy to have seen it - and even more happy that I got to see Julie Benko play Fanny.

The original Act Two is definitely not good. One can debate which is better, but it ain't good.

I saw the same performance - my second watch (after seeing Beanie back in April). I thought Julie was delightful as Fanny. Jeremiah was good, but there was very little chemistry between him and Julie - though I fault the terrible book for that more than the two performers.
Julie's final scene is an emotional journey - one that I'm glad I had a chance to watch. Interested to see how Lea stacks up by comparison - I'll find out in October.
I think last night confirmed that my problem with this production was not just Beanie's inconsistent performance (she did have her good moments, though). The book is terrible (even as revised), the production feels cheap, and the direction is terrible. Which is a shame, because the cast -- especially that ensemble -- is putting 110% into this show.
I see the Eve Harrington discussion has made it to social media. It will be part of the Julie Benko folklore forever . Not necessarily a bad thing. Oh .. and read the comments in the morning show feature.

Please provide links. I see nothing anywhere of any of the stuff you’re mentioning. What morning show feature?

First you create a thread to trash Diana Ross. And now you join a thread to do the same for Julie Benko. Interesting.

There are dozens, perhaps hundreds of performers on Broadway who have understudy or standby assignments. They work very hard and often graduate to playing the role they’re understudying full time, so that hard work pays off. There is nothing uncommon about them sharing their experiences and updates in social media
Comparing Julie’s journey to Eve Harrington’s is comparing all working understudies to Eve Harrington, and they all deserve better than to be compared to a sycophantic, unscrupulous climber.

Exactly. Wild to me to diss someone for self promoting on social media. Clearly people don't understand how the business works.

Or maybe they understand it much better than you do?
