CT2NYC, I understand what you mean, as I felt the same way when I saw the show twice during Bette's final weekend. I think once the original ensemble cast starting leaving, the chemistry of the production changed. I miss Phillip Attmore's facial expressions during the Waiters' Galop. The chemistry of the show didn't feel off when I saw the show in November with Donna Murphy though.
That being said, I have a ticket for the show on Saturday. I hope Christian Dante White is on as Cornelius.

Having seen Gavin at my three previous visits to the show, I was expecting to be somewhat disappointed by Christian Dante White, but I was pleasantly surprised. At this point, he's played the role enough to seem very comfortable in it, even more so than the new cast members, and I thought his rendition of "It Only Takes a Moment" was really quite beautfiul.
I already have tickets for June, but now I'm even more excited!! Happy to read all these love letters to Bernadette.

btw, isn’t Dolly supposed to be back from the passerelle before they throw the petals?

Dante White was awesome. I wasn't disappointed at all when he subbed for Gavin.
Threadjack for just a second [congrats.Bernadette,sorry].
Was curious about royalties to Jerry Herman. Would it be a set fee, per performance, % of profits or a private arrangement, undisclosed. This revival must be a bonanza with a long new life ahead. Wonder who will be involved in the eventual estate of?
Saw this tonight with Bernadette for the first time. My opinions here might be controversial. Sorry about that. I like Bernadette a bit more than Bette. Bette was hysterical, but Bernadette was just so beautiful and likeable in the part. She plays Dolly so bubbly and sweet and you just really root for her. It makes her more emotional scenes more powerful. Her final scene is so beautiful and just so honest. I loved it. I liked Charlie as Barnaby, but he struggled with his accent a lot. He's absolutely adorable though, as is Christian Dante White, who seems to be playing the role now until Santino steps in. Victor Garber is just fine in what I've always found to be a thankless role. He plays it very well, but doesn't make it stand out, which I didn't think DHP did either. I thought Molly Griggs was jist as good as Beanie. She was funny and had great chemistry with Charlie. Also, Kate Baldwin has grown more into herr part and found even more humor. She was on fire tonight. The sets and costumes are still stunning as always. There were some minor sound problems tonight however. Just some ruffling and clicking during the chorus parts. Hadn't noticed this before.
George and Dot, I dont think your opinion is controversial. Many are saying the same. I loved both takes. Bette and Bernie are like apples and oranges. Bette was pure joy for me and so was Bernie. Both gave me great pleasure for differing reasons. I was happy to hear the score sung well. I loved Bette, but she was raspy and off pitch when I saw her. I loved the thrilling places Bernie took the score.
I also though Baldwin was a revelation with Bernadette. She was much broader and funnier than when I saw her with Bette. I wonder if she toned down with Bette since Bette was so broad.
I thought Dante White was sensational. That boy is a star. Pure charisma right out of the gate.

I thought the same thing when I saw the show during Bernadette's first week! It was like a different and much feistier Baldwin.
For anyone who is interested: they are still selling the "Bette" souvenir program, however, they've put a fold-out insert into the front with several photos of Bernadette. Also icluded is another insert with the current cast credits, etc.
I saw the show Saturday afternoon, and had an absolutely wonderful time. The energy/chemistry from the cast that I felt wasn't there when I saw the show during Bette's final weekend, was definitely back. I will admit that I was disappointed when it was announced that Bernadette Peters was taking over the role of Dolly, but she definitely won me over yesterday. I really enjoyed her take on the role.
I thought Molly Griggs was adorable as Minnie Fay. Charlie Stemp was outstanding. I was very pleased with the choreography given to him in Dancing, although I wonder how his knees are going to hold up throughout the run.
One of the highlights of the afternoon was Christian Dante White as Cornelius Hackl. Boy can the guy sing!! He gave me chills during Put on Your Sunday Clothes. I was also moved by his, It Only Takes a Moment. I really wish they just would have bumped him up to the role during Gavin's absence. I'm so happy I got to see him.
Yesterday was my 8th time seeing this production, and it still remains sheer joy. I've said this frequently, but I absolutely love the Waiters' Gallop.

Just thinking what it would have been like if we had message boards in the mid sixties when Ginger Rogers replaced Carol Channing Good Heavens, this place would be on fire!

She hadn’t been signing. My understanding is she usually has signed after other shows, but may have been avoiding it thus far due to the nasty flu bug currently going around that she understandably really needs to avoid. The consensus seems to be that she may stage door a little further into the run.
