Umm, they’re now in their fifties, dude
Um, yeah Im a woman and it was a joke. Still better than ALL of these people. And no, not all of them are in their 50s. It's called research. Do some.
And Valentina? She's famous for being on a reality show? So, not an actor, dancer or singer. Yeah, it shows. Horrendous.

They pulled away from Angel and Collins's kiss. Opposite of NBC and THE PROM. Terrible.

Well, it's FOX!

Agreed. I also feel the same way about Alton Fitzgerald White.

I want to give a shout out to the production design because it's pretty brilliant. Wish the camera crew had gotten to have a second go...
As I said weeks ago, they SANITIZED it. No kiss, they changed SO much of the book for no reason.
How disrespectful to Jonathan's vision and legacy.
Sounds like they were so unprepared for this that they cannot figure out how to toggle back and forth between live and taped.
Little more complicated that "toggling" esp w no chance to rehearse the transitions- probably be an even bigger FUBAR than it is. Worst is there was some potential and frankly it's been wasted on a half-baked cake.
Why do people keep calling for understudies? Who uses understudies for a one-night-only event? You hire understudies so you can run. A show doesn't even put understudies on their feet until after it opens. For a special event you adapt - which is what they are doing.
By the love - love the set! Very cool. Ensemble is great. Mark, Roger, and Tom Collins all doing well. We'll see how Maureen does,

I wonder how many people caught Mark's original sweater in the homeless lady's pile of clothes that she held up.

"NO!"
Made me laugh.

Why all this unnecessary cutting of lyrics? I get taking out the curse words for TV but "Christmas Bells" was so short!

Wouldnt the camera crew have filmed before the dress rehearsal too? How else would they know the camera blocking for filmed rehearsal?

My favorite part of the show so far

If she understood what was going on with Mimi (character-wise) in "Light My Candle", she sure didn't play it...

I am sure that conversation will be happening in the Fox boardroom tomorrow morning. If this is you disaster plan then you ensure you have a solid performance filmed, not a dress. And you don’t continue to advertise it as Rent Live ....

The weird thing is that this is directed by Greif and EP'd by Julie Larson. It would seem they were okay with the changes.
I'm shocked for the hate towards the Joanne, I like her. Mark is great but not Mark as we know him, Rodger is good. Mimi acted Light my Candle beautifully, in fact quite a few are acting the roles pretty strong. Valentina is a terrible singer but sweet as hell in the role.
The staging is pretty strong I think, it still feels theatrical but also at times improved by the format (Will I)
I think people on here are way too harsh. To the average person this is a well put together production that hopefully teaches the younger ones of today something.
It's not brilliant but it's well done, even with some dodgy singing at times.

Perhaps they should have used understudies considering this is a professional multi million dollar production that lost viewers the moment they announced it was not live???? Perhaps.
I mean, they could have easily cast a drag performer like Willam Belli, who has legit musical theatre cred, can sing and can dance.
The Valentina thing I just didn't get.
BLESS! Vanessa for putting in 100% to the dress rehearsal because her performance of Over the Moon was insanely impressive by comparison to the rest of the night so far. I mean she was on pitch, she belted, she has expression. Once more, she is the highlight of a live Fox musical.
Vanessa Hudgens did a great job with "Over the Moon" - I don't care for that song but she did a great job.

Makes me wish Vanessa had been Mimi. Then again maybe it's better to have a bad Mimi than a bad Maureen. Dunno.
