This is a major setback for a production so early in previews and with a lot of expectations riding on it. Instead of being able to work out kinks and tightening up the show, they’ve got to focus solely on being able to have the show run at all. Hopefully they can overcome it.

After the 12/21 eve performance of Assassins was cancelled I got a ticket to The Music Man for that night! The cost was $279, row N seat 112. So they do lower the prices.

That's awesome! Yeah that makes sense as that seat would have gone unsold at $699.

I highly doubt the show will play without Hugh, and now without Max. The cast is obviously overworked and dropping like flies, and the number of cancellations from Hugh being out will just lead to cancelling the shows outright. There's a reason Boy From Oz went dark when he was out.

Having the u/s go on for a few performances instead of the producers paying the actors to sit home is the lone reason to have performances those days. It also gives people the opportunity to see the show without paying top dollar.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Yes, but to be brutally honest, does anyone really want to see this without Hugh Jackman?? Like a previous poster said, there is a reason Boy From Oz was dark when Jackman was out.
I don't really see any discounts for Jan 2-5. Orchestra seats are $279 and cheapest regular price tickets are side mezz seats at $99. Everything else in between those price ranges.
I'd consider those prices to be top dollar given the headliner won't be performing.
Given a real good discount, I would travel north to see Max Clayton do the role. I refuse to pay the prices to see Hugh Jackman do it - I'd like to , but I'm on a budget.
I couldn't care less about seeing Hugh, it's sad they canceled these performances as a lot of people would pay to see this production at much lower prices. What is the point of having understudies/alternates if they are not being used? Lame.

Definitely think there's enough interest from the theater community to grab a cheap ticket to see Clayton or Sean Montgomery in the role for these select few performances.

I think you are over exaggerating how much Max Clayton and Sean Montgomery are able to sell the show. Not even Donna Murphy, a major Broadway star, was able to sell out her performances as Dolly Levi. I think the show should really consider bringing in a Broadway star for Hugh’s future absences. Like Brian d’Arcy James or Norm Lewis.

If Sutton is on, people will still come to see her with Sean Montgomery as Harold Hil (sounds like it has to be Montgomery since Clayton also has COVID). She has a huge fan base and is a true Broadway star. If both leads are out though, they will need to be practically giving out tickets for free for those days.
Yep, I was just looking at Telecharge and came to comment the same. Sunday evening is just as bad; the Tuesday and Wednesday shows only slightly less so.
I don't really care for The Music Man as a show, but I might be tempted to see it with Sutton alone...but certainly not at those prices. That dynamic pricing better kick in soon if they don't want to be playing to near-empty houses. It's insane that it hasn't yet.
I'd assume it'll be up at TKTS for those performances that Hugh is out.

At least both Sutton & Hugh are getting their Covid out of the way now, at the beginning of performances so they can come back and hopefully have a few months of immunity from it (if it still works that way).

I am only judging from brief clips and photos but in all of them Hugh is grinning like a cheshire? cat and giving a performance like 'gee but it's good to be here' . Shipoopi? looks as interesting as a hall dance night.
Hugh would have been brilliant in the movie Chicago and even guest appearances in it on Broadway but nah!, not for HH the way he seem to be playing him. I would like someone a little more shop worn and knocked around by life on the road. There would have been a 'Marian' in every town for him but something about her breaks through to find that softness that resides in all of us no matter how we try to hide it. Whether that arc is there I do not know but that's how I would like to see my HH.
I know I could simply Google this, but have the leads in this ever been award baiting roles? In the way that, say, something like Dolly and Gypsy would be.
In the 2000 revival, both leads, Craig Bierko and Rebecca Luker, were nominated for lead. Of course, Robert Preston won lead and Barbara Cook's Marian, won supporting.
