Mister Matt said: "Let's hope changes to the show can live up to the pretty pictures. They had a crazy hot mess to clean up."
This is the EXACT reason I'm waiting for until previews begin before purchasing a ticket. The word of mouth from people I know who saw it in Chicago was terrible.
"So, the TV spot is now on regular rotation, and there's really no solid reference to the fact that Cher is not in this show. Then, if you go on Ticketmaster, the show details which explain that actresses are playing her are not easily found. There have to be people buying tickets who are expecting to see a concert. "
While I'm sure they exist, those people would have to be incredibly naive. Has it come to this that we need a disclaimer that Cher is not in the show, playing herself?
I agree the show needs work, but I definitely enjoyed it.

As my agent friend with clients in the show called it "a hot mess" so we shall see what happens on Broadway and what changes and additions are made!

I suppose it depends upon when during the Chicago run your agent friend saw the show? Just by reading the board, it seems many changes were made. Like ghost, I agree it still needed work, but I found it to be quite enjoyable! I was discussing with a friend just this week and noted that I actually liked it better the second time I saw it. (There was only a 2-day gap between my shows, btw.) I think perhaps that was because there is so much going on, it took me two viewings to fully appreciate the nuances.

Have you noticed who is currently President of the United States? We have MILLIONS of people ranging, at best, from "incredibly naive" to "dumb as a box of rocks" to "willfully ignorant" to "how do you survive a single minute of any day without direct supervision?". The marquee and every bit of advertising could say The Cher Show starring ***NOT CHER*** BECAUSE THIS IS A MUSICAL AND NOT A CONCERT. And you will still have people demanding refunds at every single performance because they thought they were going to see a Cher concert on Broadway. These aren't the leprechauns or unicorns or Tinkerbells that will escape the clutches of death if you simply clap hard enough. They aren't faith-based deities that will determine the fate of your afterlife. People this stupid are real. BELIEVE.

Lol, I'm listening to 45 right now, Mister Matt. I did say I was "sure they exist", and I am. I just don't think they deserve a "solid reference to the fact that Cher is not in this show.".
...and I still think the Dark Lady dance should stay in the show. I know we disagree on this, and ain't that a beautiful thing?
That ad is pretty bad though, regardless if the intent was to mislead viewers. If they were going to mislead people, word would get out pretty quickly to most people that Cher isn’t in the show. But the ad tells you very little about the show. I guess people are supposed to know it tells the story of Cher through three phases of her life. So maybe it is more accurate to say that it tells some, but sells and shows the show not at all. No snippets of a song. No video clips. I know that things will still change during or even before previews, but surely there are moments that are frozen they could highlight to get butts in seats. Epic fail as far I’m concerned. Are they trying to keep the three Chers’ looks a secret so create hype once it starts performances? As in, “you’ve got to go see the show. I can’t believe how spectacular the three Chers look.”

"Michael Riedel...The Perez Hilton of the New York Theatre scene" - Craig Hepworth, What's On Stage
I agree with many seeing the artwork and the TV promos will think this is Cher's one-woman Broadway show. I have many pop culture savvy friends who were unaware of the musical's existence and when I showed them the new artwork, they ALL assumed Cher was in this. Oh, boy. If they assumed this, the average tourist will assume this as well.
I remember when the 1st National Tour of PRISCILLA: QUEEN OF THE DESERT played Miami, many people bought tickets thinking Bette Midler was in the show because they saw her name listed on the artwork (she was one of the show's producers). They were enormously pissed and felt mislead.
FameBroadway2: This show is far from terrible. I found it incredibly interesting and still think about the show to this day. I am very interested in seeing what changes get made when the show opens next month. The jaw-dropping Bob Mackie costume parade in the first act is beyond amazing to see most of the costumes from her TV career marched across the stage. Stephanie J. Block and Emily Skinner are both amazing and will get Tony noms. No one really gives a bad performance and will be enjoyed by everyone!...
Noticed on Block's IG that they're already in the theater rehearsing. Is that normal? I feel like it's way early to have run throughs in the space? They don't start previews for over a month.
I saw the show in Chicago, and one thing that seemed so out of place was the Lucille Ball scene. I assumed it was some fabricated connection between the two of them the writers made up because of the parallels between the two have. I was just listening to a podcast, "Throwing Shade" and the guest was Emily Skinner's sister, Eliza Skinner.
They both discuss how apparently, this interaction was not made up but was a real conversation between Cher and Lucy. I tried to find some more info on that, but not having much luck
Is this a well-known thing? Does anybody have any more information on it?
Will there be a soundtrack to this show -I'd love hear Ms. Block's "The Way of Love" on a loop but I wonder if Cher would rather the audience buy her music.
"Observe how bravely I conceal this dreadful dreadful shame I feel."
I'd have to imagine a CAST RECORDING will happen shortly.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
I agree that there will almost certainly be a cast recording. And while Cher isn’t a songwriter, she most certainly will profit from the OBCR as a producer.

Lucille and Cher were socially connected thru various friends, most notably Carol Burnett, whom Cher worked with extensively.
Lucille Ball worked with Cher on the 1979 CBS Special CHER... AND OTHER FANTASIES.

It could've been worse, she could've actually been in it and just played Bette Midler like she did in Hello Dolly...
