“The Nanny” Musical — Page 2

I have to admit Lesli Margherita is flawless casting on paper. The only reason I'm not joining in the "Lesli" chorus is that I personally just don't find Lesli Marguerita all that funny. For that reason, I'd rather see Rachel Bloom, even though she's not as much of an obvious fit for the role.

Why hasn't anyone suggested Loretta Swit?

Maybe because the "joke" ceased being amusing at least 15 years ago?

Fran and Peter have been shopping this around for ages. I think it's telling that the producers are investors/co-producers and not lead producers.

Fran is Leslie Margherita or Leslie Kritzer's to lose. And hopefully they'll get their long deserved Tony nominations!

Lesli Margherita, Leslie Kritzer, or Nina Arianda. Period.

It’s actually not as stupid as it sounds. The source material is extremely funny and well done. The arc of the series has a clear beginning, middle, and end, and it’s all very clever. I never watched this once when it was on prime time but have become a fan now that it is in syndication. With the right cast and creative team, this could be a serious hit.

Also, I think Rachel Bloom is a fine writer - but find her, in a performance setting, overall unfunny.

I have to agree. I loved the sitcom, but the character was so intrinsically Fran Drescher that I can't see how the concept could be reproduced without her.

Disagree... almost everyone has a “nanny” impression in them. I would like to see Rachel Bloom Star.

Ms. Margherita is game:

Yeah, I wonder if they're going to try to imitate Drescher, or just take the spirit of the story and change around some of the details.

Okay, her acting experience is a little slim, but she's a great singer and has a naturally Drescher-like speaking voice that makes it really easy for her to do an impression, as seen here... what about Patti Russo, formerly of Meat Loaf?

I admit that I'm not familiar with Lesli Margherita and Google is not helping me on this. Is she Jewish?
Also, I hope that they replace the running Cats joke with a reference to a more modern musical.

Lesli Margherita is a great Broadway actress - her most “mainstream” role recently was as Mrs. Wormwood in Matilda, but she was also in The Flamingo Kid at Hartford Stage, which was rumored to be coming to Broadway this season or next. (Slightly off topic, but what is TFK’s status?)

Jessie Mueller? Seems like a throwaway role for her, but she's also a chameleon and I think if they were going for something close to Drescher she'd be able to nail it.
