Universal's WICKED Film - News & Discussion Thread

Kinda shocked to hear people questioning Erivo's acting ability after the raves for her performance inn Color Purple. And while I didn't like HBO's 'The Outsider' I thought her acting was completely solid.

Casting for the role of Dr. Dillamond has not been announced yet.

Otherwise, I love this group!

I think so. Just odd for Settle to take what's likely a very small role.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Variety states “Colin Michael Carmichael as Professor Nikidik.”

I see that’s a small role from the novel, but I wonder if the film combined it with Dillamond?

This is shaping up to be a legendary cast. Anyone questioning Cynthia Erivo's acting ability obviously never saw the Color Purple. Either that or is a complete idiot with zero taste.

BOWEN YANG AND KEALA SETTLE, PEOPLE! (On top of everyone else!)

No matter how big a star I am, if an opportunity came up for me to be in this movie, I would 10000% take it.

They will probably still cast someone whether they're primarily a voice actor or not. This would be a great Doug Jones-type role; someone who could physically also perform Dillamond post-transformation back into a goat.

I don’t believe I’m an idiot with zero taste.  However, I didn’t see Erica in The Color Purple.  Maybe her acting comes across better on stage than screen?  With that being said, she is an Oscar-nominated actress, so clearly many people think her on-screen work is also great.  I’ve just not been super impressed with anything I’ve seen from her on screen.

I am rooting for her, though!  She can certainly sing the score.

My dream cast had Bowen Yang as Boq, so I’m glad that he made it into the movie anyway. It’ll be interesting to see how they’re expanding the story/incorporating more from the book. This is evil of me (dare I say…wicked?), but I hope the screenplays leak.

She only has any real profile on stage, if she wants to work on film and tv, taking small roles and building is the way forward. It may seem odd that she had such a prominent vocal performance in The Greatest Showman but that was also, a small role and hasn’t made Hollywood bang down her door

I would assume every role is going to have to be greatly expanded to warrant the length of 2 full length movies.

Is BWW just deleting posts because I wrote a few days ago that Marissa Bode was Nessarose and now it’s gone?

I'm shocked they got Keala. I read an interview not long ago with her where she said she was traumatized by the fame that came in the wake of The Greatest Showman and planned to retire from acting in public.

Was it this interview? I think the context surrounding it is important. She seems to be someone who puts all of herself out there when she’s performing live and it doesn’t seem like she enjoys that.

Also having a mini stroke and surgery right before performing at the Oscars is probably gonna add trauma to anyone’s life.

It still bothers me that they don't look the same age, but I'm more excited for both of their performances than I originally was. Everybody else is adding to that excitement. I honestly always thought the Wicked movie would be a bit of a mess but it's looking like it might come together to be something enjoyable.
