I've been saying for many years if this film ever got made Gaga should be the one to do it. That face painted green with that voice and star power? For me it was her or no one.

it was announced he’s directing the stage adaptation of Crazy Rich Asians!

Erivo has already addressed this and thatshe admits she overreacted and should have just mentioned her thoughts to her friends instead of taking it to social media."
Oh, well in that case, all is forgiven. It's not even worth discussing her reaction toward fans, or her pattern of behavior in general. How dare anyone crack a joke about her overreaction? We'll have no more of that around here. Thank you for pointing out that she has already addressed it. That really changes everything.
Erivo has never truly had this much global attention thrust her way so I feel she’s realizing how and when to use “quiet luxury.” You can still voice your views but keep it off social media. I’m sure Ariana gave her the 411 on how to handle this sorta stuff as she’s had to deal with quite a bit throughout her career.

I will say, as someone who couldn't believe how tone-deaf and out-of-touch she seemed from that post, I just listened to her interview on the Sentimental Men podcast and she was nothing but delightful and insightful.

I agree. I was lucky enough to have seen her in The Color Purple the Friday night before the 2016 Tony Awards. When she came to me at the stage door afterwards, I told her how much I loved her work. She not only thanked me, but she also mentioned that she noticed how I was really into the show in the audience (I sat pretty close to the stage).
Also I just realized, isn't it standard practice for the soundtrack to come out a week before the movie? Is it odd that this one has the same release date as the movie?
Saw it in IMAX tonight. It was perfection. I will post more in the morning but all I can say now is
The scene of Ariana and Cynthia dancing together in the Oz dust ballroom is one of the most beautiful and touching scenes I’ve seen in a movie in a while.
Just got out from my advanced screening. WOW. I am very happy to say I was proven wrong about my initial distaste from when these movies were finally announced. This was a stellar experience from start to finish. There was clearly so much love for the source material involved, and despite being almost three hours long while only being act one, the time really breezed right by. They more than justified splitting this into two parts, and I’m excited to see what’s in store for part two. Here’s to a year-long intermission!

Well that's 3 hours I'll never get back. Bored. I can't believe how dull and dark the whole film looked. The poppy field was a little brighter. Emerald City was green but dull. The big dance routines were badly shot, the diction was very bad except for the Wizard-he was excellent. The monkey transformation was one wholly mess, nothing scary about them. Glinda was hard to understand with her squeeky soprano and none of her humour landed. There was emotion when the girls bonded but for me,nothing worked. The big finale was so drawn out and because it seemed to be split into so many different segments the song really didn't have that big finish.Jonathon was good but again the lighting on him you missed his cute facial expressions. To sum up the biggest disappointment was the dull dark colouring, bad diction and my overall not connecting with the material. I have seen the stage production 3 time. This was a 4 out of 10.

This was everything I could ever want. I cried multiple times. Bravo! This film gets it, this is how you honour a broadway classic. This is everything. Run, don’t walk. Run.

its shilly in here

No. A shill wouldn't write a negative review, so that comment is the least likely to be a shill in the whole thread.
shill
noun
a person who poses as a customer in order to decoy others into participating, as at a gambling house, auction, confidence game, etc.
a person who publicizes or praises something or someone for reasons of self-interest, personal profit, or friendship or loyalty.
I can't get over how emotional and amazing the Ozdust ballroom sequence is.
And Ariana Grande is really really the real standout. But i havent seen enough praise for NOMTW, her acting when she sees Elphaba statue and the lights the torch was magnificent.

Ozdust was so beautifully done, I cried.
The entire Dancing Through Life sequence was just incredible.
For those who have seen it already - have you dealt with much singing along in the theaters? Seeing it tonight and that NYT article from yesterday has me worried…

I have seen it twice in public screenings in NYC. My screening yesterday in Times Square was definitely a bit more cheer-heavy (moderate applauses after the bigger numbers and moments) but that’s as far as it went. No singing at all.
