I'm going to predict that War Paint will perform "face to face" to celebrate the ladies and keep the momentum of their strong box office going. I'm sure David Stone could afford it.
I think Dear Evan Hansen could perform You Will Be Found to show off the entire cast, or Waving Through a Window to highlight Ben Platt as a lead actor in a musical nominee. There shouldn't be any problem with money for that show, as its sold out till the end of 2017 I believe. I hope Groundhog Day will perform something, although hopefully something more telling of the show's vocal talents as the performance on the Today show didn't really leave me wanting to see it. Great Comet will probably perform Prologue into another song like Dust and Ashes to again highlight Josh Groban as the lead actor nominee.
I'm rooting for the incredible medley that the CATS company did at The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade! Ms. Parris is astounding and the whole company really sings beautifully (of course the dancing is thrilling)!!!
From President Obama: "Over the years, musicals have been at the forefront of our social consciousness, challenging stereotypes, shaping our opinions about race and religion, death and disease, power and politics."
I bet Dolly doesn't perform at all at the Tonys. They don't need the advertising, and it seems like the producers want to maintain an air of exclusivity around the production.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

Book of Mormon was also Scott Rudin and didn't do any promo before the Tonys, but did perform there. I can see it only being Bette singing a solo, but I'm sure they will perform.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

I think the Tonys need Hello, Dolly a lot more than Hello, Dolly needs the Tonys. Seems like they ought to beg them to perform for free.
I desperately want FALSETTOS to perform. Even if it's just Stephanie J. Bock doing "I'm Breaking Down." It'll be another example of a solo performer surpassing the rest of the spectacles and giving the best performance of the night.
I agree that opening the show with "Hello Dolly" should be a no-brainer. It's one of those songs that even if you don't know theater, you have knowledge of if from somewhere, whether you are 18 or 80 years old. Also, the orchestra/audience/runway pit at Radio City is HUGE compared to the Schubert. Waiters would be everywhere! Bette would be in Heaven!
It's also is one of those New York Broadway "icon openings"; the Tonys' show stopping opening segments...Marvin Hamlisch and A Chorus Line outside Radio City, "Hello" with Book of Mormon, the Hugh Jackman 2014 hopping/jumping extravaganza was amazing, Cats, Hamilton, Rent...
They won't have trouble selling Donna Murphy either; but if this "Dolly" is going to run for five or more years, a Bette Midler entrance is $$$$$-less.
Another Winter said: "Come From Away - Maybe they'll do a medley of "Welcome to the Rock" and "Me and the Sky"
Dear Evan Hansen - I would LOVE for them to do "Sincerely, Me" but I think they'll do "You Will Be Found"
Great Comet - Maybe "Prologue" and/or "Letters"
Hello, Dolly! - I would love "Put On Your Sunday Clothes" but I think they'll do the title song
Miss Saigon - Maybe medley of "The Movie in My Mind" or "Last Night of the World" and "The American Dream"
War Paint - I would love a medley of "Pink" and "Forever Beautiful" but I think they'll most likely do "Face to Face"
"
Oohh, Winter, great pic for your avatar....and that song... ; makes me want Christine to win again! She's such a sweetie in person.. glad for the noms but WP was robbed in other categories..
Please just Please...I want War Paint to perform too
Come From Away--I'd love to see them do Welcome to the Rock, it's truly a great introduction to what the show is about
Dear Evan Hansen--I PRAY they perform You Will Be Found. They can edit it to not give away plot points (they've been very careful with that) but it would be incredible to have people all over the world see that number. It would be powerful on another level.
Natasha Pierre--It's gotta be the opening
also I really hope some non-nominated shows perform, like Bandstand.
Comet's production team probably still trying to figure out how to sell the show via televised performance, if you look at the completely difference performances on GMA and the Today show which were 2 weeks a part. Prologue into Pierre didn't work well, but Balaga into the Abduction one of the most thrilling parts of the show does't have that signature ending and ended somewhat flat on the Today show. If they can change it so that it has a definitive ending, I would go with Balaga/The abduction.
The other problem they will have is do how much of the set/Russian dinner club do they try to recreate at Radio City or do they try to see if they will be allowed to perform at the Imperial, as it would be way too expensive to not only build the set and get the lighting just right for a 3 minute performance.
I wonder if the tony awards staging this year will have the apron or the smaller stage in the middle of the audience. If it's the latter, it might help Great Comet's tony award performance. It would be slightly more immersive.

As exciting as Balaga is in the theatre, it takes a lot of set-up for the song to make sense. Maybe there's a way to do it, but I stil think the Prologue (maybe going into Dust and Ashes as opposed to Pierre) is the most logical choice.

Just curious, what didn't you like about the Prologue/Pierre performance on GMA? I thought it worked quite well and would make sense for the Tonys, especially as they showcased the three nominees. Although yes potentially they could use Dust and Ashes instead of Pierre.
I also enjoyed the Balaga/The Abduction performance but I think that works a lot better within context.
Okay a ton of people always say each year that they "won't have time" to have the not nominated for best musical shows to perform......guys its a THREE hour program and even though in the past shows that didn't get the nom and didn't perform (Footloose-1999, or Legally Blonde-2007) for awhile now they've been giving ALL of the shows nominated or not a chance to perform....If a show has closed then thats one thing because its hard to get the cast back together (though they've done it before like with Spring Awakening last year or Ragtime back in 2010) but if a show is still RUNNING then having them perform is a great way to advertise the show.....to name a few On Your Feet (2016), Bullets Over Broadway (2014), The Little Mermaid (200, Motown (2013), Gigi (2015), and many more have performed with NO best musical nom...even shows that had ZERO noms have still performed like Finding Neverland and It Shoulda Been You in 2015. I personally think that every show will perform this year....yes its super crowded but I would be SHOCKED to not see Cats, Anastasia, War Paint, Charlie, Sunset, Bronx Tale, and Amelie (if its still open) to perform
For the past few years the Tonys have been using projections for performing scenes from shows, mainly because of the tight schedule in changing scenery in the barn that is Radio City.
And as I mentioned earlier - it isn't so much a question of time as money since shows pony up quite a bundle for the "honor" of 2 minutes on TV.
I agree with "You Will Be Found" for DEH but I would like to hear "For Forever" as I think that's a beautiful song in that musical that hasn't become as much of an anthem as "You Will Be Found."
Great Comet- Dust and Ashes or Great Comet of 1812 closing number
Come From Away - Welcome to the Rock/Me and the Sky
Hello Dolly! - Before the Parade Passes By or Hello Dolly!
