Considering Helen J. Shen is above the title, I don’t know why that was ever a question unless they attempted to petition her down to Featured (which would’ve been blatant category fraud) to avoid the clusterfunk of potential nominees.
JGJ getting designated for Lead Actor is absolutely the correct move and I’m glad that it happened since, as of right now, he is my strong favorite in that category.
Also, and perhaps most important, DeWitt Fleming Jr. getting the consideration for choreography alongside Rickey Tripp for AWW is absolutely deserved. That man put in WORK and I was surprised he didn’t have a co-choreographer credit (I don’t mean the small print “tap choreographer” one he does have), since they certainly had no problem listing 3 people for direction

Helen was placed under the title for the week of opening night.
So yeah, definitely tried category fraud here since the legacy playbills from October had her above the title.

There was some scuttlebutt on a few Broadway podcasts (so ymmv), that the producers of DBH and MEH were petitioning Simard and Shen into featured, respectively. Ultimately glad that didn't pan out.
Kind of hard to believe they’d try that with Simard when both women have been featured equally as co-leads in all the marketing and billing.

I wish folks would stop trying to make these acting categories gender less.

Ma'am, this is a Wendy's.
Chris Sieber in Featured is the only real surprise here for me. I know he's less of a lead than Hilty and Simard, but he still feels like the third part of that main trio.
Only surprise here for me is EUREKA DAY being billed as a revival.

These are shocking to me.

Considering they are the main plot drivers of the show and seldom change from their characters, it makes sense. This is also how they were categorized for the Olivier’s.
This also clears the way for Jak Malone to go into Featured without splitting the vote and hurting his winning chances

David and Natasha will get nominated for book and score so I feel like they’re probably okay taking the L on an acting nom.

I believe that PURPOSE ruling - which has Latanya billed above the title means there are now enough eligible women for there to be 5 Leading Actress in a Play nominees if the candidates are accurately:
Sarah Snook
Sadie Sink
Laura Donnelly
Latanya Richardson
Patti LuPone
Mia Farrow
Sydney Lemmon
Julianna Margulies
Rachel Zegler
I believe 9 eligible candidates triggers 5 nominees.

Both are definitely leads, but bummer for Natasha because she really deserves a nomination and featured actress would have been basically a shoe-in for her. Lead Actress is stacked but featured actress feels really weak this year. I don't even know who'll win that category. Jordan Tyson? Maybe?

My money is on Natalie Venetia Belcon for Buena Vista, she won the Lortel last year for Leading Actress, but based on this Eligibility ruling she'll be considered Featured at the Tony's.
I was *about* to say I'm surprised that Jon Michael Hill wasn't put in lead, but I didn't realize he's above the title with Jackson and Harry Lennix. Glad to see it!
I did wonder if Marjan Neshat might go lead for English, but not terribly surprising that she didn't.
I feel like Hogsdon went from a shoo-in to unlikely to make it in with this category change. Definitely less of a chance for Cumming too.
Featured Actress in a Musical feels barren this year to me.
I think featured actress in a musical is going to be shaken up well by Real Women Have Curves. Plus Natalie Venetia Belcon, and Jinkx Monsoon - I have to assume Ruth is featured, no? Haven’t seen this Pirates! yet, just a fan of the original, so maybe I’m wrong. And the Gypsy women (I’m including Lesli Margherita in that).

Agreed! I hope it's her year.

I was just looking at my GoldDerby and noticing that. It's bizarrely thin.
As far as Mincemeat, it wouldn't surprise me they if they did this to clear out Cumming from a crowded featured actor field to further secure Malone's nom (not that there was any doubt, but I think it's a smart move). Once you've done that, I don't think you can honestly argue that Cumming is lead but Hodgson is featured, you have to follow through. It's all worth it if it helps Jak win, IMO.

Oscar Wilde winning an award that didn't even exist until nearly a half century after he died would be quite the achievement.

I was going to same the same thing about Real Women Have Curves, especially if they don't petition for Justina Machado to move into Lead (which I would guess they probably won't attempt). I'd be surprised if Aline Mayagoitia doesn't get good notices for her performance as Itzel too.
Besides RWHC, there are featured roles in Floyd Collins, Just in Time and Pirates (and maybe Dead Outlaw -- IDK?). So even if the featured actress in a musical category seems "barren" -- an opinion I definitely do not share -- they're not going to have a hard time filling a ballot.
Fingers crossed for Julia Knitel to win Featured actress in a musical for Dead Outlaw.
Where can one find the full list of eligibility decisions made?
Will Marjan Neshat be lead or featured for English?
