The rest of the SF run has now been cancelled, as it was in LA

Yep. I am here. There are 3 new swings tonight."
Curious who the additional swings are? Would you mind sharing (after the show). Have they hired a standby yet for McClure?"
12/22 night:
Understudies on for Natalie Hilliard, Wanda, Andre, and the principal/loopy Lenny track. All were fabulous.
3 new swings in the slip: the aforestated MJ Slinger, Tracee Beazer, and Clifton Samuels.
According to the playbill, Rob only has one U/S: KJ Hippensteel. But I don’t see Rob going anywhere unless he has to.

Whew! I just finished my 8th show in the last 5 days and I feel incredibly lucky. Flying home tomorrow.
I had this trip planned for a while, and I almost canceled it all last Friday night before I was supposed to catch my flight. It seemed like a fools errand to expect to see all the shows I had planned. At the last minute I decided to go any way, and if Broadway got shut down, I would just hang out at the Drama Book Shop all day. Haha. Any way. I ended up with only one cancellation (Skeleton Crew) and that was announced two days in advance giving me plenty of time to book another show (Kimberly Akimbo-win!). All my other shows went on as scheduled, even though I was nervous they would cancel all the way up until 15 minutes into each show. Made for a less-than-relaxing trip...but my fears never materialized.
I realize I am extremely lucky. Additionally, every single main player was in and most shows performed with their entire casts - no understudies. It was uncanny. I still don't really believe it.
Additionally, everything I saw was either pretty good or great, That never happens on New York trips. I usually just see everything I haven't seen yet...and there are always sour apples in the bunch. But this trip everything was at least pretty good.
I saw Trouble in Mind, Flying Over Sunset, Assassins, Little Shop of Horrors, Company, The Music Man, The Lehman Trilogy, and Kimberly Akimbo.
I just kept refreshing this thread every half an hour for the last 6 days. So thank you everyone for the updates. It was reassuring to know I had all the inside info here. Although I'm feeling quite relaxed now that I don't feel a compulsion to check this thread every 30 minutes.
Saw Moulin Rouge tonight and in terms of the principals:
Natalie out, Ashley Loren in for Satine
Robyn out, Karli Dinardo in for Nini
There were also understudies in for La Chocolat and Pierre. Not sure exactly how many swings were on tonight.
I was supposed to see MR on Saturday but it was cancelled. MR was the main show I wanted to see coming to NYC, so I was super bummed when it was cancelled, but noticed was able to scoop decent seats in the balcony for $120ish a few hours before the show tonight! It’s our last night for this trip and it was the perfect way to spend it. Was worried I’d come out of this trip 0/3 shows but ended up only missing the Rockettes (and I’m sure we can see them another Christmas).
Hoping Broadway can come out of this winter as intact as possible and can’t wait to come back again soon!
edited to add: was SO happy seeing Aaron in tonight. Saw he was out yesterday, but after I booked the tickets I saw he was back and it made me look forward to it even more—he was absolutely amazing, as was the whole cast

Slinger's performed in 7 Broadway shows as a dancer in the past dozen years. Having him in the show is hardly a bad thing.

The Writer of "Thoughts of a Colored Man" went on last night after a positive covid test.

It’s not about it being “hardly a bad thing” - it about setting a bad precedent. The asst choreographer isn’t in the show. HIRE more swings. Or, CANCEL the show. This wouldn’t happen in any other department. Unacceptable.
They literally hired the assistant choreographer to swing in. They will likely hire more swings and covers. It takes a little more time for that though, and in this moment, they hired the one person who knew the choreography for the show to happen. Everyone wins.
Broadway shows aren’t closing because of inept procedures put in place (even though they’re clearly not perfect); they’re closing because Omicron is ridiculously transmissible and it’s on the rampage. As others have said, having more standbys etc in place won’t help if they’re getting sick too. Being vaccinated and boosted doesn’t even seem to stop you contracting the omicron variant - I now have 4 friends who have caught covid despite being fully vaxed and boosted and they’ve been avoiding large gatherings etc. I’m not sure what could be done to protect the performers and crew short of quarantining them all in their own Broadway hotel, and cutting them off from contact with anyone else - which obviously is not remotely feasible!
Of course it’s not right that shows are cancelled mere hours before a performance and the whole system does seem to be a bit of a mess right now, but I’m not hearing anyone come up with feasible solutions that can mean shows stay open (and profitable) in the middle of this covid spike. Sure you could test everyday (which would help) but then if you haven’t got enough replacements then you can’t stay open anyway! Unfortunately it’s just the way of it at the moment, and it sucks!
One thing that does annoy me is the suggestion that some performers/leads are not going on out of an abundance of caution! The standbys and replacements probably don’t have that luxury!
It's not all that uncommon for the asst choreographer to swing in the show at the beginning of its run.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
Pretty Woman Cancelled In DC at the National Theater - was supposed to run last week of December to Jan 2. Disappointed. Scooped up tickets for Baltimore in April. Hope it still runs!
Have there been reports of crew members being out for testing positive? We keep hearing “hire more swings” but If all three of the dressers who do a quick change are out, and they don’t have alternates, or the alternates are already there doing other duties, then this becomes a safety issue and a reason to cancel a performance. Same with board operators, ASMs, etc.
Claybourne Elder just posted on Instagram that he tested positive for COVID and will be out of Company for a while with Jacob Dickey swinging into his track.
Just saw on social media that a sub pianist conducted Caroline, or Change last night. Must have been an emergency situation. It was his Broadway conducting debut.

I guess a silver lining in all this is understudies, swings, sub musicians, sub conductors, etc are getting many more chances than they ever would in normal times!
