Could THIS possibly be the reason they haven’t made a cast recording yet? I think it’s plausible that they had a scheduled date for recording but we’re sidelined by all the positive tests and absences. Pure speculation on my part, however.

I hope that’s the reason but who knows. I hope Tony buzz and success will push them more. Although Sondheim was involved with recording the London version, the producers must realize that the recording just isn’t very good. The Broadway cast blows that cast out of the water. There’s some lyrical changes and many updates to the orchestrations. Heck, “Being Alive” was practically fully re-orchestrated during 2021 previews.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
If it is to happen, it needs to be soon. Have to imagine some of the cast will leave by the end of the summer.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
It would just seem tragic if the final Broadway production Sondheim was involved in of his work wasn't recorded.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

This makes perfect sense. They opened a couple weeks before Omicron hit, not mention most shows don't record that early either.
I've always assumed it was the producers trying desperately to keep the show open during both winter and the variants before they could turn to focusing on that - not to mention the expense. But not even having a full company because of the variants makes it a pretty easy decision to hold off.
I just don’t see it happening at this point. If the producers were going to do it they would’ve by now. Cast recordings typically happen shortly after opening so they can get it out and on the shelves at the theater and try and make some money. They are currently selling the London cd at that Jacobs. Also, the fact that Patti is on that recording doesn’t help any either. This cast is far superior to London and it’s a shame if they don’t but from a producers stand point it just doesn’t make any sense financially.

Not only is this cast far superior to that on the London recording, but the orchestrations at the Jacobs are ABSOLUTELY STELLAR. This score has never sounded so good, and needs to be preserved

Agreed on all counts but unless there is some outside money person that wants to make it happen then I seriously doubt it will. Just mho

100% the sound at the Jacobs is far superior to what’s heard on the London album. For some reason the orchestrations sound thin on the album.

Not to mention those American accents being all over the place. Oy!

When do you think they were supposed to do the cast recording?
I was just looking for tickets for next Weds Night the 4th and Yikes! Theatre is pretty much empty. Think I'll see if better deal at TKTS. Not sure about tdf.
"I hope your Fanny is bigger than my Peter."
Mary Martin to Ezio Pinza opening night of Fanny.
I agree DAME and I usually despise live recordings. Anything to preserve this cast! It seems like they’ve filmed a lot of the show… not sure if that means a proshot or just regular b roll.

I suspect this, too, and the additional issue of COVID exploding right as the show was heading towards previews. My guess is previews, opening, recording date were all set, then COVID threw a monkey wrench into everything, and while the cast managed to reassemble and the production open when it was safe, the recording dates were left hanging for...whenever...and now they are realizing it may be too late. I really hope it isn't too late.
After first getting tickets for this two-and-a-half years ago, Ii was finally able to see it tonight, and it was everything I hoped it would be. Full cast was in. I feel blessed.

Matt Doyle’s Instagram story: “There’s no proshot. ❤️ Come see the show.”
So unfortunately it seems like there’s (taking this at face value) no proshot plans as of right now. I wonder if these are clips that were filmed for the documentary that’s releasing at the end of May.
Headed to NYC next week (first time in nearly three years yay!) and I take it the full cast has been in as of late? Have loved hearing all the different clips of the understudies on social media however would really really love to see as much of the full cast as possible, are we thinking the odds have been good as of late for that being a possibility? Most likely seeing the show next Tuesday the 10th.
