FINALLY. I’ve loved Tammy in so many things but she was absolutely dreadful in this otherwise stellar production. I was holding off going back until they finally had a new Audrey. Lena Hall is an unexpected but excellent choice!

I thought's Tammy's Audrey was a wonderful and unexpected revelation, but I'm also excited to see the great things that Lena will also undoubtedly bring to the role.
I said it in the other thread, but I think we can celebrate Lena without diminishing Tammy’s run. While divisive, I happened to enjoy her grounded take that was a departure from the caricature big-voiced Audrey’s of the past. Her vulnerability was believable and definitely added layers to her Audrey. I’ll take acting chops over vocal pyrotechnics any day. Art is subjective for a reason, but let’s be respectful.
i went in expecting to be disappointed in the vocals, and im not here pretending she was hired because she sings this role better than the rest, but MAN did she deliver a layered, interesting and deeply emotional performance. the critics got it right here, she was just wonderful.
Yes, Tammy was absolutely incredible. No idea why her performance was divisive, she acted the hell out of the role.
Sad to see her go, but Lena Hall will get me there for my third viewing! She should be such a bigger star than she is. An absolutely incredible performer.
Can someone please explain in more detail why Tammy has gotten so much scorn on here? I'm not sure if it's because people think she was actually not good in the role, or if they're just hung up on Ellen Greene's specific Audrey?
I've seen Tammy multiple times and each time, I've thought her acting was absolutely terrific. Her choices were intense and felt deeply real—I felt like she was the victim of a domestic violence relationship who saw glimmers of hope, happiness, and a future with Seymour. Not sure at all what was missing from her acting performance.
Her singing wasn't exactly Idina Menzel or anything, but she hit the notes every time I went. "Somewhere That's Green" was heartrending and beautiful, and "Suddenly Seymour" built up to the climax exactly how you want it to. For me, she hit all the notes I want an Audrey to hit.
I just feel like I'm missing something to read that so many people have had such a different experience with her?! LOL

I thought her Suddenly Seymour was fine, more of an acting punch to the gut than a powerhouse ballad. Her Somewhere Thats Green was absolutely perfect. Sniffles throughout the audience. She was born for that moment.
I actually think her weakest moment is Downtown/SkidRow, where she struggles with that big belt and theres no way around it. After that moment, it was smooth beautiful sailing.
She had the beaten down by life look but compared to the other singers she just couldn't compete. At all. I love the album but skip past her as fast as I can which is hard to do. So glad a great singer like Lena is joining the cast!

Hear, hear.
In fact, I will add, as impressive as I find Lena as a performer skill wise, I've never warmed to her or felt for her emotionally, so I'm a little apprehensive about a move from such a deeply felt, vulnerable Audrey to an actress that I'm a little cold about. I'm absolutely ready to be proven wrong, however.
Saw the show last night and it’s in great shape with the current cast. Lena is terrific, of course, but I honestly felt myself missing Tammy’s performance. She may have ruined other Audreys for me.
