Incredible news that she and her unborn child are stable. There is already more than enough heartbreake.
"Oh look at the time, three more intelligent plays just closed and THE ADDAMS FAMILY made another million dollars" -Jackie Hoffman, Broadway.com Audience Awards
Absolutely horrific! At least Ruthie Ann, Laura, and the unborn baby are all stable. I can't even begin to imagine how these families will repair in the coming months/years.
It's wonderful so many Broadway actors have talked about Ruthie on their social media, and have donated so generously. I am SO glad she is out of critical condition, and hopefully will be physically ok soon. Thoughts and prayers, always.
The driver should be held criminally responsible for the deaths of those children.
Words cannot possibly express how awful this is. The loss of lives so young, and the devastation it will have caused. My deepest sympathies to Ruthie and those close to these poor people who lost their lives.
Thank god. I was worried all day. So relieved to hear shes in stable condition with her unborn baby. Still sending prayers to help them get through this difficult time. Nice to see so many people donating.

I was close to tears when I heard about this. To lose your child so young in such a horrific manner is just unbelievable. So glad to hear her and her unborn child are ok and send her and her husband much love in this difficult time.
I woke up this morning to a vague text from a friend with a news link. I read it and was like, why did my friend send me this, I don't know those names. Then it hit me, all at once, just the realization and shock and tears. Some things its just hard to believe could happen. You're supposed to cross during a red light and cars aren't supposed to move, thats how it should've been last night.
Every time I have ever met Ruthie she has been nothing but gracious and kind and just one of the sweetest people, and so down to Earth. Im sickened by this news, Im by no means old, but when a parent loses a child (no matter how young) it affects me deeply. (a la Rabbit Hole) Possibly the worst kind of loss someone could incur, in that it defies the "natural order of life." Im glad to see the Go Fund me pages thriving, not that its any consolation, but the outpouring of love and support is going to be so important moving forward for these families in the coming months and years.
As far as the driver, I can't even comprehend how she was allowed on the road, but I don't know all the details, so Im not going to speak to that here.
Im just happy to hear that at a least Ruthie and her unborn child are doing well physically and stable. Im just in shock. I don't know what to say.
God bless Ruthie and the other mother involved who also lost her child. Cannot think of anything more tragic. May they find the strength to recover from such devastation.

I live in Los Angeles now. When I woke up this morning to the news (music doesn't wake me up, it just helps me to sleep), I heard about a Broadway actress that had been hit by a car and her daughter was killed. No names, that was it... I made a mental note to come to this board to find out the who, what, where, etc.
So tonight, while having dinner, I came to Broadwayworld to see if I could get more information...and of course I came across this thread.
I've never seen Ruthie Ann Miles in anything, but I have read all about her on these boards...and really enjoyed her on the latest Broadway cast recording of THE KING AND I.
As I read through these many, many, many posts...one thing really hit me hard. While we all rightfully chastise our government leaders when they offer up their "thoughts and prayers" whenever there's yet another school shooting or fill-in-the-blank-event...as many of you have stated: thoughts and prayers mean nothing. Actions speak louder than words.
So, for the first time EVER, I followed the link to the Go Fund Me Page and donated to the Ruthie Ann Miles cause. It made me feel good. Now, I know that while my thoughts and prayers are behind this...my money is, too. I hope that some of you reading this will follow my lead and donate, too. I'm sure many of you have already done so.
When I got home, I checked my bank account and saw that my donation had been taken (along with a 10% Go Fund Me charge which was disclosed at the time I made my donation...whatever).
Thanks for reading. I'm sure every little bit will help.
Well, at least they took her license away, and is now facing other charges. Here is the thing: You cannot kill two children at a crosswalk without consequences, especially given her horrific driving record, especially in school zones.
Ruthie was supposed to perform in a benefit for Planned Parenthood at 54 Below next Thursday. The concert is titled Broadway Baby Mamas and featured Broadway actresses who have children. I hear that the concert will now benefit Ruthie. If you can, go!
I saw another video of the car going through the light and it really doesn't make sense. She slowed down to let people cross and then sped up to go throw the other side where there were clearly a bunch of people walking. I don't know what the hell she was thinking. Maybe she actually did have a seizure like she says but obviously she shouldn't have been driving in the first place if she knew she can have one.
I know people were protesting to make this intersection safer but I don't see how that could have been prevented what happened here. She should have had her license revoked at some point with her history of running red lights though.
Here's the video from NBC that shows what I was talking about it, it stops before the impact..
So nice seeing, Katie Holmes, Kirsten Anderson Lopez, Amy Schumer, Broadway.com, Audra, ben platt, Sutton Foster, Jonathan Groff, Rachel Bay Jones, The Hudson Theatre and so many other amazing talents donate to her family. so heart warming.

She also donated to the Lew family as well. Many others donated to both families also.
The depth of this tragedy is impossible to escape and all anyone can really do is be supportive. But yes with all it's ups and downs, the theater community is really a COMMUNITY in the best sense of the word and I feel grateful that it's going to be there for both families.
