Anyone have any insight into if it will extend again through the lucrative Christmas season?
are there 2 or 3 understudies for this show? The press releases state 3: Hannah Solow, Peter Smith, and Martin Landry complete the cast. However, Playbill only has Solow & Smith listed.

Have a question. I have sat in the second balcony of the Lyceum a few times, and I thought that the seats were pretty good, because it is such a small theatre. I decided that I was going to get second balcony seats for this, since it doesn't seem like a show that will suffer from cheaper seats. Going onto Telecharge, they are saying that a number of the second balcony seats are partial view due to a rail in front of the first row. Is that a real issue? I don't remember there being an issue previously, but I realize that the last time i sat there was for The Nance, which must be over a decade ago.
I just don't feel like paying $200 for an 80 minute non-musical, and remember previously hating seats in the more reasonably priced rear of the first balcony, due to an insufficient slope (I remember struggling to see a lot of the stage if the person in front of me was more than 5'6" (and I am 5'11').
Any feedback appreciated.

I sat Balcony Row C in the center for opening night and that bar was not an obstruction for me, but it definitely would have been if I was in Rows B or A. I would avoid those second row seats you're looking at. The view from Row C was great honestly.

My guess is Landry is a recent addition. Going off his photos from Google I’d assume he’s covering Conrad, which makes sense since that character has such wildly different energy than the other two male roles.
As an aside, I’d love to see Hannah Solow’s version of Mary Todd. Seems like she’d bring a whole new flavor to the role.
Martin Landry was added to the Playbill this week.
How has the in-person rush been? Thinking of trying on Saturday if I don't win the online rush.
Does Cole have any scheduled absences upcoming?

What a wonderfully ridiculous play! It reminded me of my twenties, rushing downtown to see Charles Bush in Vampire Lesbians of Sodom as well his many subsequent others. Odd there really hasn't been many "serious" man-in-drag plays since. But unlike Charles (don't get me wrong I LOVE Charles Bush) Cole plays everything in absolute truth, no matter how silly. There are other actors on that stage who winkingly know they are performing farce. But Mary's real inner rage, her desperation and longing gets interpreted through Cole (and, let's face it, they're hoop skirt) as the purist of comedy..
The way that it’s “staged” as a dowdy, drab comedy adds such a great Carol Burnett quality, right down to the lame actor doubling.

Caught this last night and can’t add much more except this is tremendously fun romp, one I hope to catch again. Brilliant writing.

What a truly great piece! Did not expect to be moved as much as I was. Also really funny. Love Cole.

This was my view from Left Balcony Row B Seat 1:
I didn't think it was going to be too bad, but anything that happens downstage center (which turned out to be quite a lot) was behind that square bar that juts out. Also, there's a sofa on stage left where a fair amount takes place, and it was smack dab behind the head of the person in front of me. Every time they moved I had to move to see around them. The rest of the stage was perfectly fine.

Can anyone comment on how rush has been? How early have people been getting there and how long have the lines been? also, does anyone know if they are setting aside seats for rush or is it just whatever might be randomly available that hasn't sold for that performance? TIA!!

On Tik Tok subscribe to "Brian the Business Analyst". Numerous times a week he heads to the theatre district in the a.m. to reports on how many people are in line for EVERY Broadway show's rush.
i can't get to the theater early enough to do rush on a Saturday. I've been trying the online lottery but keep losing. some day I'll win.
Just buy a partial view orchestra seat towards the back, $69 at the box office. House right is better than house left, but even L 17 is barely partial, and more than 1/2 the price of the seat next to it.

Probably for the best. The play would probably go right over your head.

i'm sadly the dissenting voice here, though i DO appreciate the mad genius of Cole Escola. the whole thing is just over the top brilliant witty looniness, and Escola is hysterical, but i found the madcap weirdness somewhat exhausting pretty quickly? It felt overly absurdist to start, then settled into a groove I really liked, and then went off the deep end at the end.
I can see liking this more in a small theater, with the wit coming out of nowhere, but for $175 on a Saturday night full of screaming audience members i just felt a lil disappointed.
i know, i know. i apologize for my blasphemy. and i know im in the firm minority. the audience ate it up, the group behind me was literally screaming with laughter. thrilled for this team to have such a firm hit on their hands. mazal tov all around.
I preferred watching this play at the Lucille Lortel. Very happy for this play to succeed though and hopefully it will have another extension.
As for rush, from reading the reddit reports, it sounds like they set aside extreme partial-view seats for rush. Roughly around 20 tix per performance.

You are not alone. I saw this at the Lortel and found it highly overrated. The humor got exhausting - fast. I particularly was not fond of Ricamora’s Lincoln - did he do anything but scream?
However, I did feel the ending redeemed the show. The “surprise” at Ford’s Theater and what ensues was terrific. But I was disappointed by much of what came before.
I think Conrad Ricamora’s performance is underappreciated . He perfectly embodies gay self-loathing and acting out on others because of it, thus the yelling.
I’ve seen the show three times now: once downtown and twice on Broadway. It’s remarkable how little has changed and how funny the show felt even on third watch. Cole is a genius.
I will say the show was a bit less enjoyable from the front balcony. The lights and railing made for a terrible view and blocked out just about everything downstage where much of the action is played. I sat front mezz last night and had a much better time. Fortunately I bought my tickets when the Broadway run was announced and the prices weren’t sky high.
The audience energy last night was electric. I don’t agree that people are laughing just to laugh/to justify the ticket prices. That’s a boring assertion better fit to the middling jukebox shows. I found the reactions at Oh Mary to be genuine. There were gasps and shocked laughs at the reveals.
I don’t know how the cast maintains that energy and frenetic pace doing a 5:00 and 8:30 show the same night. I wonder if they’d bring in a new cast (Bowen Yang for Mary!) and extend the run, but I hope they do and I hope to see it again.
Has Cole missed a performance yet?
