To mean it doesn't every feel like I'm too far from the stage or bad views. The Guys and Dolls revival felt too big for that space, but something like War Paint felt perfectly sized.
They should sell this as a limited engagement for like 4 months and then they can always extend due to high demand. 1200 seats a night is a lot of tickets to move forward.
I mean can’t they just redesign be set for any space? I don’t think that dictates which theater too much. I think they think Mendel will sell tickets. Which has proven to do.
Idina absolutely will sell tickets. She comes to Broadway so rarely compared to some of her counterparts (Audra, Sutton, etc). Plus this sounds like a much smaller show than IF/THEN from a budget perspective.
"Oh look at the time, three more intelligent plays just closed and THE ADDAMS FAMILY made another million dollars" -Jackie Hoffman, Broadway.com Audience Awards
The producers have perfectly timed the opening of this show. I imagine there will still be a lot of buzz from the Wicked movie. They can use some of that press to promote Idina’s return to Broadway.

Proven? Citations needed. "If/Then" flopped and the play "Skin Tight" at the Roundabout bombed. In the words of Janet Jackson, what have you done for me lately?

Well, she obviously did sell tickets to those shows, even if they flopped. It will be interesting to see how Wicked mania affects ticket sales for Redwood.
I'm intrigued. But I once again find myself having to blast the volume -- and even use the Closed Captions -- to decipher her last few words. (Maybe my failing hearing or bad speakers, but Menzel ain't the best enunciator...)
I initially thought she sang I've had my green escape... Thank God I was wrong -- a little too on-the-nose!

Actually the size of the set does play a part in what theater a show takes. Redesigning a set and building it takes time and costs money.
I will 100% be seeing probably multiple times because I love Idina so much and I’m sure this show will survive for as long as Idina wants to do it because of how dedicated her fanbase is (atp I’d be suprised if she’d want to spend a full year in a show).
But I have to admit the marketing of this show is kinda throwing me—it feels so tonally similar in ways to If/Then that i find myself subconsciously expecting it to be If/Then 2.0 but in the woods—a show that showcases her emotional capacity well but ultimately doesn’t stand on its own/leans a bit too much into sentimentality and maybe doesn’t take full advantage of what has made her iconic in roles like Elphaba and Elsa. She has this sort of frenetic and vulnerable rebellious outsider energy that she’s able to harness into power in those two roles and I wonder if someone will create a project for her where she can tap into that. She’s in her 50s now but I think seeing someone of that age go there is all the more intriguing—she certainly went there in her very well-crafted recent concert tour.
And if this show DOES tap into that in Redwood, I have to say, the marketing isn’t really teasing that well right now. Curious to see what it ends up being.

She made it through her contract. I don't think it's her fault that a show needs to run 5+ years to be profitable these days.

How did Skin Tight bomb ? They had an opening and closing date as many roundabout shows. It was actually great
Saw the show in La Jolla and Idina certainly gives a dynamic performance (and the entire cast, Michael Park especially impressed) but the show itself was a total meh. Felt like half an idea with a very underwhelming score. The set design/projections that Jason Ardizzone-West did were completely stunning, but on the whole, this did not feel like a show that should be headed to Broadway to me. I hope they prove me wrong!

What an asinine, patronizing, inane, brain-broken-by-consumerism sentiment. Menzel is not your dancing monkey and everyone's career has flops. Jesus.
