Pierce Beats Esparza
Pierce was good but nowhere near Esparza
Raul Esparza's loss is one of those... W T F moments.... : ( from RC in Austin, Texas
Its not fair!!! Raul needs that tony. DHP please we need you to leave now! to quote him... Raul was so superb and needs his performance awarded.
When I heard Bernadette say "oy," I knew it. This isn't fair; DHP is good. He's giving a cute, lovable performance, but what is that compared to someone who lays all of that emotion bare on stage the way Raul does? There's nothing right about this at all.
I'm proud of Raúl no matter what, but I wanted this to happen for him so badly.
Probably one of the biggest upsets in Tony History
Pierce was good but Esparza was so far beyond it was pitiful. This ranks with the great Brinks robbery as one of the biggest heists in history
Now, wasn't someone on here supposed to run down 44th naked?

I'm going to admit it that I started too cry. I was so sure that Raul was going to win; but it just went downhill. I know many will probably view me as being rather over the top about doing that but Raul has influenced me in so many ways. He is the reason why I want to go into the performing arts; and his constant charisma and god given talent is so magnificant; I just don't understand why they chose the bigger name star over the one who truly deserved it. But what can we do?
This is hardly one of the biggest upsets in Tony history. Some people DID expect DHP to steal.
Anyway. I agree with Emcee. DHP is giving a loving cute performance. Raul on the other hand..
Raul was tottally f***ed. Sorry had to make the joke. But honestly i cant imagine what is going on in his head. I somehow thought he knew he wouldnt win. As sad as it was. I hope revival is enough to keep the show running so Raul can continue to show the world his amazing performance. I was so scarred at first I almost thought Groff would upset and then I was like nope its Rauls and then DHP it was a stab to the heart. Raul was unbelivable and deserved it. Im done ranting. goodnight
I still can't believe this. Raul Esparza's performance is one that I will always remember and talk about for years to come. It just doesnt make any sense.
woops double post
I can't believe so many people LOVED Rauls performance.. I just can't see it.. I've never liked him.. his vibrato is out of control.. he's a nice enough guy.. but he isn't the next best thing. Not that I think DHP should have won.. but certainly not Raul.
at least one of my prayers were answered. sorry if anyone thought the devil was on my side

I just don't think that "loving cute" should win the Tony. Miss Congeniality maybe but we are talking about acting here.

Well, Pierce was the best part of SPAMALOT.
Wait...which show was this for?
i am shocked about Raul....I think DHP is absolutely lovable and adorable, but i think it's that he naturally is that way and was playing himself in a way, ya know? I enjoyed his performance, but I think Raul should have won.
One thing I must say, though....did anyone ever see the episode of Friends where Rachel is telling Joey to give a good loser face in case he doesn't win his soap opera award???? well, i don't think Raul had a very good loser face in the 2 seconds we saw his face before it cut to DHP.
I have nothing against DHP, but what bull****.
Esparza was robbed.
Shocked and upset on so many levels... I love DHP as much as the next person, but this was Raul's year. I don't know what else to say. Just shocked.
Totally UNFAIR! Undeserved win for DHP! Raul was ROBBED!!!!!!!
I do not understand! Let's all go see Raul and tell him he IS the best!
I was afraid it was going to be Groff when I heard the gasp as the "envelope" was opened.
I haven't seen Curtains yet, so I can't comment on DHP. But I'm in the "not won over by Company camp. It jut left me cold.
I am still in shock.
My chin is still all the way on the floor.
Raul, you are amazing! Hopefully we'll see more Tony-worthy performances from him soon to make up for this... disappointing loss.
I haven't been able to pick my jaw up off the ground. I was so numb I couldn't even roll my eyes when Spring Awakening won best musical. I couldn't even bare to care because for the past six years, I've been following Raul's career. From tick tick to the Rocky Horror to the Sondheim festival to Taboo I've been there and been amazed at his talent. After watching him grow through the years, I felt so proud to finally see his name above the title. He truly deserved this award for not just his gut-wrenching performance in Company, but for every show he's done previously. I don't know what this says about the Tony's... Does anyone think the vote might have been split between him and Groff, and thus it went to Peirce? Or are there really a bunch of nutters out there?
