Anyone tried a 1pm matinee, then a 5pm oh Mary then an 8pm?
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
Oh, yeah! In July I caught the 2:00pm matinee of Water for Elephants then ran over to the Lyceum for the 5:00pm Oh, Mary followed by the 8:00pm Illinoise. Enjoyed 'me all!
I actually did this back in March when it was still downtown. It was Life & Slimes of Marc Summers at 2, Oh Mary at 5, and the Enemy of the People at 8.
Similarly, I’m doing this again this coming Saturday - The Roommate at 1, Big Gay Jamboree at 5, and Our Town at 8.
The only real kink is knowing when/where to get a quick bite between shows and/or sneaking some snacks along with you.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

I had a four show day once (sorta). When the Norman Conquests was playing, Tovah Feldshuh was in a play — that must have had a 5:00pm performance. Irina’s Vow, I think. It was on 48th St. I remembered thinking that I would miss maybe 10 minutes of the evening Norman Conquest play, and went for it. I did not stay for the curtain call of Irina’s Vow and managed to get to my seat at CITS just as the lights went down. A very enjoyable day. Loved Norman’s Conquest and enjoyed IV, even though it was not very good (sorta movie of the week on a serious subject).
I did this way back when with a 2 pm Mean Girls, 5 pm Freestyle Love Supreme, 7 pm Hadestown. This normally wasn’t possible, but it was around Easter so Hadestown had a night show.
I wish everything I wanted to see wasn't at 7pm instead of 8. I worry about getting out of Mary at 6:30 ish and having to run to a 7 show and not having time to pee. 8 would be ideal.
Yes, I've done it several times. Like so many others here on the thread, will be doing a 3 show day in November - "Tammy Faye," "Oh, Mary" and "Sunset Blvd."
Many years ago, the best 3 show day was seeing a matinee of "Grey Gardens" with Christine E, evening show of "110 in the Shade" with Audra Mc, and Linda Eder at Feinsteins, at 11pm. The entire day was sublime.
Yes! I did tha 3 day show on my last trip in August. I saw 2 pm The Notebook, 5 pm Oh! Mary and 8 pm Suffs. Worked perfectly ! Of course they were all on 45 th which was a plus.
March 2024 (Saturday) - Notebook at 2pm, Titanique at 5pm, Tommy at 8pm
July 2024 (Thursday) - Great Gatsby 2pm, Oh Mary at 5pm, Hell's Kitchen at 7pm
You can do Oh Mary at 5pm and easily catch a 7pm show and not be that rushed. I was out of Oh Mary by 6:35 and it was a short walk and I was at Hell's Kitchen by 6:40.
I’m doing it in November. Hills of California at 1, Oh, Mary! at 5, and McNeal at 8. This will follow a 5:30 am flight to JFK, so it will be an endurance test but I’m looking forward to it.
Just remembering you've had an "and"
When you're back to "or"
Makes the "or" mean more than it did before
When "The Norman Conquests" revival played CITS in 2009, the entire trilogy was occasionally presented in three separate performances in the same day. As I recall, the first show started around 11 am, then we broke for lunch, a 3 pm performance, dinner break, followed by the 8 pm performance. All three plays were great, but my bum was sore from sitting all day!
I once did a four show day starting with a performance of Winnie the Pooh at 10am. By the time I finished that evening at Dear Evan Hansen, I was exhausted.
I've only done a three show day once, involving a 10 am Met broadcast of Das Rheingold, streamed to a movie theater, a 2 pm Matinee of Madama Butterfly and a 7:30 performance of SCAPIN with Bill Irwin, but am planning this twice within a week when I'm in New York in November - on thursday Sh*t. meet. Fan. at 2 pm, Oh Mary at 5 and the first preview of Gypsy at 8, and on saturday, catching Titanique at 5 pm in between two TBD shows (likely Cult of Love and Death Becomes Her).

I did a four-show day a couple of times when the New York Musical Festival used to have shows scheduled all day long in venues in and around the theater district.
A Saturday in August, Stereophonic 1pm, Oh, Mary! 5pm, The Outsiders 8pm. Had time to grab a quick bite at The Perfect Pint, it’s right next door to the Lyceum. 8pm evening show really helps!

Wow! That's a heck of a whirlwind.
I've done 2 show days but honestly I found I wasn't adequately energized for it....like I couldn't really soak up the shows as fully as I wanted to.
At the end of 2022, I did an Ohio State Murders matinee, booked it to Lincoln Center for a 4pm Old Man and The Pool, and had plenty of time before the 8pm 1776. 3 VERY different works- it made for a really fun day.
I was going to shoot for the 3 show day but think I would be cutting it too close for Ragtime at 2 and then Mary at 5. I'll wait to see what the official running time of Ragtime will be once it opens.
"I hope your Fanny is bigger than my Peter."
Mary Martin to Ezio Pinza opening night of Fanny.
Strategic Love Play, starring Michael Zegen and Heléne Yorke at the Minetta Lane Theatre, has 5 p.m. shows on Saturdays, and it runs less than 90 minutes (it ran 70 minutes in London). I just booked it for a tight 2p/5p/7p with Swept Away and Tammy Faye in November.
I am waiting to see my third show today. Saw The Oursiders at 2:00. Rushed to the Lyceum for the 5:00pm matinee of Oh! Mary! Now waiting to see The Notebook (I had Spring tickets and missed it, so I figured that I already paid for the performance, so why not.
Only downside: two Sabrette hot dogs for dinner. Naturally, I was starving. I am expecting this to be a good combo: serious musical, silly short comedy, and a soap. Will see.
