Looks like the Imperial will be available sooner than expected.

Posted: 8/7/18 at 7:11pmThe actors did their best and I hope they find new work soon. As for the creatives, they should be ashamed of themselves. This really does seem sudden, but this production should've closed at intermission during the first preview.

The revival wasn’t the most successful, but it gave recognition to Lindsey Mendez’s talent that theater fans have talked of for years.
Best of luck to all involved in their future endeavors.

I guess we can stop speculating on Renée's replacement now.
The production itself may not have been fantastic, but I'm glad I saw it. If for nothing else, it got Lindsay a much-deserved Tony and highlighted Renée Fleming's voice to a whole different audience.
Plus the cast recording is beautiful.

GOOD.
This production should have never opened with Jack O'Briens horrid direction.
I've never ever seen a worse directed piece of theatre on the Broadway level.

Posted: 8/7/18 at 7:25pmI was in the minority on this board and absolutely loved this production. There are brilliant performances on that stage, and while I didn’t agree with all of the directorial choices, I was still very moved by the production, more than even MFL. Very sad to see it closing and wishing that awesome cast all the best!

Wow, I am actually shocked that it's closing so soon. I thought they would last until January. The actors did their very best with the material they were given, the the dancing was the best I've ever seen on Broadway. Shame.

Good riddance.
Terrific concert, horrific musical. It actually made me angry it was so poorly executed and wasted tremendous talent.

So happy I was able to see this production of "Carousel" (twice). There wasn't anything about it I didn't like. Renee Fleming was wonderful. My best to all involved.

This was really one of the worst productions I've ever seen. Aside from Lindsay Mendez's luminous performance, this was really a shame to see.
Happy trails to everyone involved, but onto the next one for me.

CAROUSEL is a classic, beautifully written. Too bad they really screwed with it so much. I think its defenders will blame the "controversial" relationship, but it's the production that failed the material.

Always sad when a show closes. Saw it in May and loved it - it was fantastic.

Damn :/
I listened to some of the music and actually liked it But didn’t get a chance to check out the production. I thought the chorography from the performance at the Tonys was amazing though.
For those of you who saw it, where do you think it went wrong?

Predictably, all the haters on here are throwing themselves a little party over this and posting all sorts of venom. I hope they feel real good about themselves now.

Posted: 8/7/18 at 7:50pmBeautiful performances in a poorly directed production. Overall I liked it, but the cuts in Act 2 just left me scratching my head. I'll be at the final performance.

Same here. I loved the production but mind you I never saw the movie nor was I even familiar with the musical. The dancing and choreography was amazing and similar to the poster above, I was more emotional in this production of Carousel than I was at MFL (and MFL is one of my top favorite musicals.) And yup just got my ticket to the last performance!

Their advance must have been awful for the fall. With 41 in the cast and 26 in the orchestra, it's not a cheap show to run -- probably well over $700K per week in running costs, and they only grossed $675,000 last week. I hope all these talented actors find more work soon.
I would also say it's fairly certain this production will not tour.

I remember seeing another thread that it was going to possibly close in January and Derrick Davis recently said in a post that he'd be contracted through Jan..Guess they decided to close it earlier?

Isn't the book kind of a paean to toxic masculinity?

Many of us have said, over and over again, our very real problems with this production. This isn't Carousel, this is Jack O'Brien's Carousel. Three songs are cut, multiple scenes are cut, countless character development is cut, the cast looks as though they're lost out at sea, the set is without any purpose.... and all for masturbatory reasons that weaken the structure of the piece. This was a weak director (or a weak concept by a director) being projected onto a musical until the musical became no longer the musical but an amalgamation of badly thought out ideas.
We're allowed to be happy that a subpar version of this musical is closing. We're allowed to want it gone.
I'm happy that people are no longer being exposed to Jack O'Brien's Carousel as I rather love the musical Carousel and would rather not have this as many peoples first exposure to it.

Good call not bringing in the Lyric opera house of chicago production in..you know the one with actors who could actually act and have sexual and emotional tension? Laura Osnes and Steve Pasquale would (should) have been in this.
