Mockingbird has been failing at the first one. Stop with all the "performances will resume tomorrow" nonsense, and just call off this week's performances. Nobody believes the window-dressing at this point, and it's bad for business.
Thank you. Jesus Christ.

I’m going to Music Man tonight!!!
Kimberly Akimbo matinee was AWESOME!!! I shed tears! The had understudies for Bobby and Deliah and they were terrific. Our American Utopia was cancelled for tonight. We were going to stay in the neighborhood and catch a show at Comedy Cellar but since Music Man was on for sure and so was Hugh Jackman I didn’t want to risk missing him on Thursday so we rushed to the box office and got tix. We couldn’t get seats together but at least we got tix and spent the original amount of money. I’m a librarian so the musical holds a special place in my heart… lol! It was the one show beside America Utopia I really wanted to see on this trip but already we’ve seen two wonderful (Girl From North Country and Kimberly Akimbo) shows on this trip.

There is LITERALLY no other way to begin next years show.

I say something like that will happen at Easter Bonnet as well, assuming it goes on as scheduled. Would make for a great opening number!

I’ve noticed that Tina’s social media has been under heavy scrutiny lately. I don’t know if it’s because it has cancelled so much, or if people are just looking for a show to blame- but I truly feel for the people making these inevitable decisions as well for the social media teams who have to make the announcement.
For other shows, most people have been commenting words of love and saying that they will see them soon. For Tina, however- people have been demanding performances as well as demanding to know if their specific performance in the future is going forward. Sure, it is hard to predict how the company will be in a few weeks- but I know producers also don’t want to pull the plug on a show for a week if they don’t have to.
It is especially bad on the post about todays evening show cancellation. I think I feel for Tina the worst out of all this. And of course Jagged and Waitress, who shut their doors.

Honestly, and I know people won’t want to admit it, but the Tina bashing feels a touch racist. What else would be the reason that no other show is experiencing this type of backlash when every show is going through the same issues? Company canceled both shows today with very little warning; people understood and wished the cast well. Tina played a matinee today but was forced to cancel the evening show because there was no one to play Tina, the reason to see the show; people demand answers and say it should go ahead and throw in the towel.

Patti LuPone put out a statement saying that the cancellations have been due to rotovirus, and that positive COVID cases have been covered by understudies.

Rotavirus sounds a lot like what I had this past summer (C diff). Totally nasty illness that can knock you out for weeks.

My husband had some kind of stomach bug on Thanksgiving (poor timing) and he was out for a few days. Now I’m wondering if it was this rotavirus.

Wondering how long it may take for the stage crew of Company to recover... could it be longer than the average 10-day quarantine from Omicron? Hoping everyone is okay.

I attended Come From Away tonight and it was fantastic. Props to the costume folks for getting costumes for the new/returning cast on short notice. The theater also was about two-thirds full so if you want to see this cast, it might be easy to get a ticket.
Also saw The Book of Mormon today and I think only 2 swings were in.

So, shows are just putting understudies on in place of someone who tests positive, even though the rest of the cast has been directly exposed to them? Like with The Music Man - Sutton is out of the show because she tests positive, but Hugh doesn’t have an understudy go on/cancel the show? Don’t they have a kissing scene? I’m trying to wrap my head around this process because it doesn’t make any sense to me.

If they were just going by exposure, Broadway would shut down. They’re gone by positive tests. Everyone is regularly tested.
While actors engage in high-risk onstage behavior like kissing, it doesn’t mean they’re both guaranteed to get infected.
