The title of the thread basically says it all. Considering the news that was just announced regarding his departure from the late night talk show, do you think that could eventually reopen the conversation for a Broadway revival of Forum that he was originally slated to lead?
His shtick got old very quickly on the air… though I must admit I will miss his “Crosswalk the Musical” and “Carpool Karaoke” segments. Corden would make a good Pseudolus, though this would be a different kind of comedy than his knockout role in One Man, Two Guvnors.
Corden, fresh off of his truly fantastic turn in One Man, Two Guv'nors, in Forum would've been truly special.
But now, when he's managed to test the patience of the entire world? No thanks. The best thing he could do for his career right now is nothing, for a while.
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
I’m a rarity here, a Corden fan. But I don’t see him necessarily scoring in a Broadway Forum (though he of course could play it) in times of more provocative casting. But more importantly, I think he’d be wise to stay away from (more) roles associated with other actors. Create a part or two from the ground up, maybe a play.

Wow. You read my mind. I was just thinking about the Hathaway hate. I used to enjoy his show but haven't thought about him much. I don't understand the hate either. Hathaway has recovered, I suspect Corden will as well someday.

Hathaway is pretty generally known as a kind, decent person that's great to work with. Same can't be said about Corden, and I say this having absolutely loved and raved about his performance in OMTG. Hopefully he's grown and changed, because I'd love to see him recover and be well-regarded again.
I dont get it either, but I enjoy him. I dont know many that feel otherwise.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I love her but, Whoopi wouldn't have the stamina to do a Broadway show these days.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
It’s clear that Corden has expended any and all goodwill he acquired immediately following his rise to mainstream fame. His quick rise to stardom allowed him to burst onto the scene, and promptly land a gig that has kept him in a steady position of power and security. This has given him the leverage to remain in the public eye even after the public has started to turn against him. And he managed to eke out a “film career” that was mostly reliant on producers who were desperate for big-name talent to fill out their crappy movie musicals, or the voice cast for their crappy animated films.
So far most of the backlash against him has been pretty tame - mostly just that people find him irritating - which isn’t enough to tank his career at this stage. Though there have been more and more trickling reports about his bad behavior behind the scenes. I think his departure from Late Night will result in a rude awakening for him, showing that being a household name doesn’t mean everything when it comes to sustaining a career.
And I think we’d see an extension of that if he came to Broadway, where being a widely beloved actor usually means more for ticket sales than being a widely known actor.
I was a fan of his back in the day, after his phenomenal performance in One Man Two Guvnors. But nowadays I agree with those who find him grating. It’s a shame though - he could theoretically be quite good as Pseudelus if he could get back in touch with the genuine comedic skill that put him on the map, instead of cheap, loud hamminess that he relies on now.

James is incredible, kind and has done so much for the Broadway community, especially during the pandemic. There's no reason to hate him but on this board there is only one reason why people don't like him and it's shallow, pathetic and sad. Trust.

He needs to stay away from anything musical for a while. If he doesn't want to take a break, a dramatic acting role to earn back some credibility would be the best choice. Though I don't think a sitcom would be out of the question.
I find him to be unbearable, but I think we're stretching the idea of "the public" here. His show has slipped in the ratings. That's mainly because the thing people like the most about it will be uploaded to YouTube within hours of airing. The man ****s out viral segments like they're nothing. I think middle America still likes him. If he could manage to show any vestige of his OMTG comedy skills he'd probably be a revelation to them.
He single-handedly ruined the CATS movie which I was prepared to hate because I have taste. But I only hated him and his sabotage of the movie when it was released ("I haven't seen it and I won't ever see it and I won't talk about it" paraphrased) showed that he's only about himself. Even Idris was a good sport about it. But not old History Boy.

There is so much doublespeak, and blowing hot and cold from the same breath in this thread! The above made me laugh the hardest.
After reading the criticisms of Corden in this thread, I'm thoroughly convinced that absolutely *NO ONE* truly dislikes him. It seems nobody can say anything bad about him without immediately making amends for their own ill-thinking by following up with praise for his work.
Pick a lane people. Jump off the bandwagon.
I've enjoyed his acting work since his stints as Craig Owens on "Dr. Who" (w/Matt Smith as the Doctor). I'm looking forward to what's next for him, although I think the role of Pseudolus is too tame/predictable an option.
Molina in "...Spiderwoman"? That piques my interest.

I will never forgive the writers of the Tony Awards like 4-5 years ago... he fake announced he was going to play Pseudolus and everyone cheered and it was all a joke. Everyone in the room I was with just kept saying "Wait he would be perfect"
