The video is definitely a fail, weird and uncanny and awkward, but I actually liked the song. Maybe something that shows off Criss and Shen's voices more might have been smart, but the song they used had a pretty melody, insightful lyrics. It's got me interested to check out the rest of the show

I asked this question when he joined Little Shop and was chastised for questioning that about an Emmy-award winning actor, so I guess there’s at least one on here who’s still a fan.

It felt like a more credible musical theater song than My Favorite Love Story. But then, I didn't have to listen to that tortured banter for this one. It at least feels earnest instead of painfully unfunny. While I want to see an Asian musical succeed, this show is less appealing than either KPOP or Here Lies Love.
Due to a supply chain issue, Broadway previews will now begin on October 16. Opening night is now November 12, with a red carpet company celebration set for the 11th.
Marcus Choi will round out the principal cast as James and others.
I saw this in Atlanta a few years ago, it was bizarre and not horribly memorable. It wasn't bad, it was just....different. I'm not sure that this one will do well.
I thought this was transferring in from it's out of town in Atlanta, so I'm surprised there's still sets to be built. Maybe it's animation time that producers didn't account for for projections?

Its out of town happened more than 4 years ago, in pre-Covid 2020. They might have saved some scenic elements from it or they might be rebuilding from scratch. A transfer is rarely the exact physical production that existed out of town.
Though keep in mind that the same producer pushed his Pacino GLENGARRY revival's opening night by a month after missing two previews due to Hurricane Sandy. but i don't imagine anyone will be using a teleprompter in this musical.
The set was very high tech in Atlanta, not just a projection design. The Atlanta run had frequent technical difficulties so I’m not surprised they want to level it up for Broadway. The atlanta run was also more than 4 years ago so I imagine they need to replace/rebuild a number of set items
I read that he did some play a few years back, but considering he seems to have a nice enough voice, and he's certainly a pretty boy, it's interesting he remains largely a TV celebrity who has mainly come in, third or fourth string, to take over a musical that has already been going for some time.
