It should be canceled permanently. James Dolan should be fired and jailed for having 0 Covid protocols in place and putting everyone’s lives in danger.
I won the lottery for Freestyle Love Supreme for one of their cancelled performances and while the cancellation email gave the opportunity to refund or exchange when I logged into the website it only had the option to refund. I wouldn’t have been able to see it any other time so I didn’t press the issue but I wonder if Hamilton would do something considering the price differential.
I'm curious - does anyone know if any of the shows are able to get insurance to cover these performance cancellations? I believe that back in the before times, some of the shows had pandemic insurance that paid out when Broadway shut down. But given that these cancellations are now essentially inevitable, I'm guessing that it's no longer feasible.

A lot of people kept theirs on, but probably half of the audience was unmasked. It was very bizarre."
Staff are not all masked either. Anyone know how they can get away with a no mask mandate but BWAY requires? I find it crazy for them not having any regard for the health and safety of those attending the show."
Because it's not a legal requirement. The mask mandate on Broadway was negotiated with AEA, which wasn't going to allow its members to perform on stage without one. The League originally wasn't going to have one, either.

There is a meeting of all the Broadway theater owners this afternoon....which normally isn't a good sign. Let's hope new, more stricter protocols for testing are the result.

I’m from PA so Im not too familiar what’s going on in NY. But I heard recently and I might be understanding it wrong, but a mask requirement is only required for venues that do not have a vaccine policy in place.

I'm guessing everyone will need to be tested daily now and not when they arrive at the theater.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Basically yes. But unlike the Broadway venues, the Jim Dolan-owned MSG venues (like Radio City) only requires audiences masks if you're not vaccinated. As of last month, they were not requiring vaccines or recommending masks for its employees, like most businesses have to. I'm assuming that's changed with the new mandate put into place this week, but who knows...

Does anyone know what the refund situation is like if the show is canceled due to covid and tickets were purchased at the box office? Do I have to go to the box office to obtain my refund or will my credit card be automatically refunded without any action on my part?
Question: Will Esparza win for The Homecoming?
BobbyBubby: I hope so. If only for the mental health of many people on this board.
Does anyone here feel that these cancellations could lead to a winter hiatus of all Broadway shows to ensure the safety of the companies and crew? I know that probably won't happen, but the Broadway League needs to come up with some sort of plan to help with keeping shows operational and keeping actors and crew safe at the same time. Personally, I feel there should be a short hiatus until things calm down. Again, I feel that won't happen, but something has to happen if we are going to get through this winter with two variants of COVID-19.
The idea is to work and to experiment. Some things will be creatively successful, some things will succeed at the box office, and some things will only - which is the biggest only - teach you things that see the future. And they're probably as valuable as any of your successes. -Harold Prince
What’s happening here with cancelations is exactly what we knew would happen and the fact they’re only shut for a day or two is EXACTLY what we had wanted the outcome to be, should people test positive. Part of me thinks that now that it’s a reality and not just speculative, people are “moving the goal posts” on how they think about it. But at least right now, the majority of shows are going forward each day and the ones that need to stop, are (for the most part) either back the next day or a couple days later. Hopefully it can continue like this…

Correct. Also, theaters are required to have a vaccine requirement, as are restaurants and gyms. So they aren't required to have a mask requirement. The mask requirement on Broadway was a demand from AEA.
Clearly a vaccine requirement isn't working as well as we hoped, as we see with all these breakthrough cases in fully vaccinated companies. If there are so many cases within cast & crews, just think about how many audience members have COVID and are sitting beside you. A scary prospect that I think a lot of theater-goers will be thinking about when more mainstream news coverage starts.
Sitting in a masked audience is not a similar risk to the contact of a cast in a large Broadway musical. - if anything, perhaps they could stop serving food and drinks. And with gyms, restaurants, and numerous other business and institutions up and running, I see absolutely no reason to punish the theater industry with a full scale closure.
I really hope for the sake of everyone employed in this industry and related industries in the city, we all find a way forward - even if it is exactly what's been happening this week. Are the minor illnesses being experienced by these casts and crews really worse than the economic hardship that would be caused by an industry shutdown?
