I’m speechless. Rest well, Steve.
[Updated] From The New York Times obituary:
His lawyer and friend, F. Richard Pappas, announced the death, which he described as sudden. The day before, Mr. Sondheim had celebrated Thanksgiving with a dinner with friends in Roxbury, Mr. Pappas said.
Absolutely devastating. A legend. There is no more appropriate word. An unmatched legend.
A long, incredible life. An absolute legend who will forever be remembered. Rest in Paradise, Genius.

I'm shaking. It's going to be a sad night at Company,if they are still planning to perform tonight. So sad that it happened on Katrina Lenk's and Christopher Fitzgerald's shared birthday.
Geez. So heartbreaking. And he was just at Company's first preview last Monday. If Company goes on tonight, I can't imagine LuPone performs.
NOOOOOOO
RIP to one of the greats - legit can’t imagine Broadway without him. A long and fabulous career for a fabulous man. This one hurt.
I have no words. A true legend who changed the face of musical theatre for the better. May he Rest In Peace.
I just gasped. And now I can’t even think straight. This was inevitably going to happen but it’s still such a shock. What can one even say?
I feel sick. I’m just about to board a plane and all i want to do is find a dark corner and cry.
I can’t even comprehend this.
A sad day in the world of theatre. RIP Legend.
Gutted.
Thank you, sir.
Words can’t express how this legend has moved me through the years. I know this was coming eventually, but this is a monumental loss.
Double post
RIP

Just saw a tweet that said "Thank you, Sondheim, for being alive and 'Being Alive.'" Beautifully done.
I'm trying to wrap my head around everything he gave us and I just can't. Old friend, thanks for everything.
I saw A Little Night Music for the first time a few weeks ago (local production). There's so much that weighs heavily on my mind these days, but for an evening I was transported someplace enchanted and beautiful. Thank you, Mr. Sondheim, for what you've given us all.
I haven’t been in this board in years now but… this was the first place I can when I got the NYT notification.
there just are no words… 💔
No.
The day we dreaded is here.
We will not see his like again. RIP
