This is a film where I would love to see bloopers run starting 10 or 20 seconds into the credits. Off topic I know - just a thought that came into my head just now for some reason.
Marc and Craig, can I just check: is this still a board for OPINIONS? I am a little troubled by your dogmatictone(s).
My opinion is that Edna's look is not quite heightened/ larger-than-life enough for my taste. I hope that is acceptable.
If you would like my views on world hunger or any other OT subject feel free to PM, as I don't feel they belong on the Broadway board.
PS When I saw a mid-week matinee of 'Hairspray' last year I was very impressed by the level of energy and commitment from the cast, (not something that can be said of all shows), and enjoyed the performance immensely, thank you. So, a little cream with the vinegar.
Well, thanks Marc. This looks great. That hand crossing is really going to bother me, though. Ha.

Thank you Marc for posting this. I actually like the way Edna looks portrayed through John. It makes her seem more homely. The comments are so funny. I am glad that this production is going to seperate themselves from the original movie. I can not wait to see this. Thanks again.
They both look fantastic and really happy to be doing it. I have no doubt the film will be fun and a big hit amongst critics and fans alike. From your recent comments, you seem like you're very happy with the outcome so far, and frankly - no matter what any of US think - that is what matters. Congrats, Marc & company!
I think Nicole(is that how you spell her name?) and even John look great, and both fit their parts very well I cannot wait for this movie! So is it coming summer of 2007 or december of 2007?...or maybe no one knows yet :) But yeah, those comments you have been leaving Marc, are hilarious! Especially the one about shutting down production because of catsnyrevival's disapproval of plaid :P
Also, question for Marc: is Travolta going to be speaking in any sort of character voice? I know some past Ednas have made attempts to imitate Harvey's grogginess, but will Travolta be doing that as well? I'd be curious to know.
Just watch him sound like he did in "Welcome Back Kotter": Tracy:Mama, I'm a big girl now! Edna:Up your nose with a rubber hose, Tracy!
Well, I have no vested interest in the film to be sure, although I certainly hope that it is a raging success (We need more of those in the movie musical camp, don't you agree?)...but I do have one concern that I hope you all can clear up. please tell me that Travolta - he of Urban Cowboy, Grease, Welcome Back Kotter, pre-Scientology dreamboat in his own way - is wearing some prosthetics on his face to make it that jowly. Please.
I think they look adorable. Could Nikki be any cuter?
I can understand all the concern surrounding the movie due to the past few musical movies that came out, but this movie is still in production and Marc is working carefully on it. With "Rent" we didn't have the beneft of Jonathan Larson's input and well with "Phantom"...the musical (IMO) wasn't a great source piece.
Wouldn't you think that the man that made such a fun and uplifting musical would take care of it to preserve the vision he had, and to keep the fans happy? Give Marc some credit, it seems like he has a new job; mollifying the fans!
Also, John Waters wouldn't let the creative team screw up his baby!
and now after seeing that pic ,really can't wait to see this.
hmmm maybe i'll beat my record of seeing chicago 8 times in theaters with this

Shiksa, no offense, and I'm only playing devil's advocate here, but I highly doubt John Waters has any real power over the show as it's being made into a film. I think the people involved will attempt to put what they found appealing onstage onto film as much as possible, though, and as so many people have said here, it's one thing to speculate but to poo poo something off of some still shots is pretty funny.
Miss Cleo was a fake! How can I possibly reconcile her statement that this movie is going to be good with everyone's real and factual statements that, based on publicity shots, it's going to be anything but? HOW HOW HOW?
Is Gerard Butler going to replace Travolta as Edna? That's the ONLY thing that will save this film for me. And Emmy Rossum as Tracy in a fatsuit. Or, better yet, NOT in a fat suit. Hey, it's called ACTING!
I like it...I'm starting to not care about who they cast. They obviously did for a reason. The movie will be great because the show is great. Who cares if they take "It Takes Two" out? I've heard Zac sing and I'm not sure he would do it justice. I'm sure that Marc will write a song that's just as great for Zac.
The only question I have is (not a complaint, at all) did they add some weight to Travolta's face? I know he's been looking a little bit hefty these days but not that hefty.
Anyway, enjoy the rest of your slander, posters. I have work to do. TGIF!!!

I for one love the shot :) They look perfect together and actually look a lot alike! I'm not a fan of Travolta, per se, but he looks good here. Now where's Queen Latifah!

Ha, no offense taken. I guess I was just assuming he had some input on the film because he has been seen at the set. I would figure if there was something going on with the movie that really made him see red, he would say something.
